Looking at hotels for the LSU games this year in Gainesville and hotel prices of course are steep, I have never made this trip. For those who have is there a good place to stay perhaps outside of Gainesville making easy access to the game, etc... Thanks for any and all info

We usually stay in Lake City

Ok thanks, I will check out hotels in that area

I went. It sucked. Will never go back. And we got absolutely destroyed. not a good experience

What sucked about it, was it just because we got beat? I have heard many horror stories, but I have been wanting to make this trip. I been on the fence with but this year we are deciding to go.

Only way I am going back is if the Saints@tampa game is the same weekend
I have been multiple times. Florida cops make it a pain in the arse to tailgate, so many alcohol rules that are actually enforced. Also, the majority of the time if you are an away fan you don't get a ticket...... You go to jail

Despite the bad rep, Gainesville was actually one of the best road trips I've been on.
Didn't hurt that we won though. Lee to Toliver!

It just was not a good experience. They put all the visiting tailgates in a tiny corner opposite the stadium on campus. And its a HUGE campus. Takes a long time to get to the stadium. People sucked and were not fun. You encounter assholes at every campus, but you also encounter some good people that are nice and want you to have a good experience. None of that in Gainesville. And diff kinda people in Gainesville to begin with. We drove and the drive fricking sucks.
Cops suck too. They have cops in the stadium with binoculars looking for away fans that snuck alcohol in. 3 of my friends ended up in jail there because of that.
And Ive been to every school in the SECW, and UGA, UF in the east. UF has been the worst by far. And its the people that make it suck so bad. I dont need a nice campus or bar scene to have fun either. It just sucked because the people sucked.

Lame tailgating
Over zealous police force for those in opposing teams colors
Fans generally suck
Nightlife and good restaurants are nil
If you really want to go to the game, stay in Jacksonville, St. Augustine and enjoy the beach then drive in for the game but watch the speed traps on the back roads.

I can't remember where we stayed, but I went the last time we played there and enjoyed the day...didn't see any of the horror stories I have heard about florida fans or anything like that...
like most away games, tailgating is damn near impossible...better off just getting there and hanging out in some local resturant, IMO...

I've been four times and tailgated all four times. It's awful.

Ocala is about 30 minutes south of Gainesville. There is a nice Residence Inn right off I-75.
Other posters are right. Tailgating at UF does not compare to the rest of the SEC. A lot of fans hang out at the bars across the street from BGH Stadium before the game.

Roadtrip I plan on never making unless I have free tickets

Don't. Unless the fans have gotten any less trashy, its the worst in the SEC, and I've been to all but StarkVegas and Mizzou. Great atmosphere ruined by the egotistical fans.

I went in 2012, and it was meh. Not just because we lost and it was hot as balls, but the tailgating sucked. I stayed in Lake City because it was the closest vacancy to Gainesville.

We had a really good time tailgating there, crowds were into it, cops somehow didn't bother us, but then we lost 22-10 (whatever the score was in '97). After the game was over, we had everyone from an old lady to little kids wagging their fingers in our faces, and talking shite. They didn't do anything worse than in-your-face heckling, but they were awesomely annoying about it. One lady at least gave us a beer to lick our wounds after she put us down.

All of this.

UF sucks. Been therr twice. Sucks. Both times my team won so it wasn't due to that. Cops are such dicks. They go out of their way to be assholes

Definitely agree. The cops seem to get their kicks off of fricking with visiting fans drinking. I would honestly save my money and pick another away game.
