We stay in Ocala, but I live in West Palm. The hotels are cheap though. We actually hooked up with a dual LSU/UF tailgate. Had a blast. Then they whipped our arse in the 2nd half.

All the hotels in Gainsville are shite holes. I would look just outside of Gainsville for a Hilton or Hampton. Also, last time we went, the Hooters didn't serve liquor, only beer.

There's a Hampton off Archer Road that was pretty nice. Stayed there in March for baseball against them.

I've been to 117 straight LSU games and don't get emotional about the game. I still think Gainesville is the worst of the SEC game-weekend environments.
