He's jumping off in a wingsuit.

Wife was cooking dinner and overheard the commercial. She thought they said "jerk off on Mt. Everest"

The only part that makes my hands sweat is him being stuck for a second on that crack, trying to find his next hold. That's unnerving enough when you're 15 feet off the ground in an indoor climbing center. I can't wrap my head around that feeling while 600-700 feet up a route with no rope.

Doubtful

Isn't the highest heli rescue there like 13k or 15k and it almost didn't make back down.

I heard this guy on the radio. He has summitted several times. The climb should not be an issue. In addition to a wing suit there will be some form of propulsion (which has not been revealed) to get him clear of the mountain. As others have said, there isn't a steep enough face to simply jump.

People do this regularly on El Capitan.

ETA: And Half Dome.

It just doesn't seem that difficult to fly in a wing suit

pretty stupid no matter how good you are....just doesn't make sense to literally put your life in your hands.

Helicopters cannot fly at that altitude (summit is almost 30,000'). They say it can be dicey getting a chopper to the base camp (somewhere around 15,000').

You can't.

The summit is above the flight ceiling of helicopters.

Keep in mind, just because you are still on the ground, the summit is approximately the same altitude as what airliners cruise at.

The main danger is that if something goes wrong, there is no rescue.

None.

I'm interested to see how it will be filmed live.
