And you will be able to take it anyday, four months out he year, which they have not identified the months.

No more waiting twice a year, can anyone else confirm this?

Nope. I have a professor on the lapels board and he is the only voice of decent, so it will pass. Its on the lapels website also.

Yes PE is multiple choice and like I said will be computer based after the first of the year. Schedule hasnt been set yet but you will be taking at Pearson Vue just like the FE.

my only advice is to beg borrow or steal the practice problems from one of the classes. solving 100s of problems with the solutions at hand was the only thing that got me through that test. none of the other reading or coaching seemed to make a difference.

No its not computer based until next year. And starting in September you will be able to take the pe once you graduate and pass fe. No more waiting to take the test but you still have to wait the time to get the license.

wow, this is game-changing....I wonder of Mississippi is considering something like that....

Good luck.

Luckily it is only one exam compared to the 7 I have to pass for my architect's license

i used to want to be an architect. now that i see how much crap your profession has to put up with, compared to engineers, i wouldn't change a thing if i could. i guess you still get to design artistic shite while i just mess with numbers. good luck.

Would it behoove a petroleum engineer to take the FE, and ultimately, the PE?

the PE typically matters most in the consulting world and as a result, is really a bigger deal to civil engineers than any other discipline...

I have been an ME for nearly 20 years and there has only been a time or two that I wished I had it...never would have made any difference in my earnings, though...

I would take the FE regardless and then decide on the PE once you get in industry and can see a tangible return on that effort....

Yea its a pretty big deal. It will allow people till say they already passed the pe even before they get job. Doesn't change when you get your stamp though. Only the academics position on the board us against it.

Bad thing is they expect the failure rate to rise

same here and that shite is like cheating once you have it. i see why people pay $1700 for the class. you are basically paying to be able to pass

Why? Not like you get the license right away.

there's something to be said about passing a test 4 years out of college. i just think it cheapens it to be able to take it after the fe

I agree with your assessment Spank. If you are government or plant the PE is typically not needed but a good thing to have. The PE is needed for consulting. If you are going the private sector you will not go far without a PE. Typically it is more important for Civils but EE and ME need it to in certain situations. I'm in a small firm and we have one EE PE. I used to work for a 400 person firm that had one EE PE and tons of Civils.

As to the OP about cramming for the test, WHY? I assume you can still bring in all of your books. I took it the first time it went to multiple choice. I did not realize it was multiple choice until about two months out. I thought it was going to be the 8 question format with partial credit. What you have to realize is you have 80 questions per 4 hour session. If you do the math not enough time for in depth questions. Granted some will take longer than others but your not doing Dif Eq. Pick out the most important 10 books and bring them. I brought 13 used 6 and wish I would have brought one I left at home. Some guys brought in 3 bankers boxes of books and I thought to myself, you won't have time to go through that many books. A lot of the environmental questions where just that questions. Find the key word look in the glossary, go to that page and read a paragraph or two and get the answer.

I passed the first time and had 20 hours of study time max. Full disclosure it took me 2 try's to pass the FE.
