Why? Not like you get the license right away.

there's something to be said about passing a test 4 years out of college. i just think it cheapens it to be able to take it after the fe
The whole point behind 4 years of experience is for you to have real world experience under the guidance of a PE. If you can take the PE right after the FE what checks are in place that you train under a PE? While book smarts are great, real world knowledge of the profession is needed before you go off on your own. I think this is a horrible idea. I think this is worse than the notion floated around about having to have a Masters to take the PE which I think is horrible as well.

It doesn't change any of the checks in place. Still should work under a pe. Noticed I said should, you do not have to in this state. The lapels board will still issue the license and they will decide if you meet all the requirements or not

you couldn't have typed that out to begin with?
It wasn't needed, we know what it is.
Co-worker is taking off next week to study, but I'm years away from even thinking about it.

LAPELS can do as they please when issuing a license. I do not agree with taking the test as soon as possible and waiting on the experience. Just My opinion.

I agree
The PE is easier than the FE, so if you can take them back to back, it should make it too easy

What about those of us that will already have at least 4 years experience when we graduate?

Doesn't count, I am in that boat. Experience only counts from the time of graduation. Trust me I have tried everything to get around this. The is no way around

Right, but they are saying you won't have to wait to take it come next year. Honestly, I think it should go back to how it was a few decades ago and be experience based only. The second department head I worked for got his degree while working and was able to get his PE before he graduated.

Experience only counts post FE. If you passed the FE and took another four years to get out of school. Good luck.

Don't think that's correct
I've known people that didn't take the FE until later in their career and they got to take the PE as soon as they passed the FE

Correct. The experience timeline doesn't matter just that you have the 4 years. I also disagree with allowing engineers to take the PE just out of school. Failure rate will increase and it will push folks to take the easiest section rather than the one in their field. Hell you don't even know your field just out of college.
Eta: just to clarify it should be after 4 years engineering experience. If you were functioning as an engineer prior to receiving your degree...shame on you.

I passed the electrical power PE several years back. I can't imagine taking that test right out of school. Unlike the FE, there were a lot of topics that I didn't learn about in school at all, but only through working.

I also agree this is a terrible idea, that said, I now plan on taking it in September. Anyone willing to share their testmaster's notes??

Passed environmental PE two years ago this month, couldn't imagine taking it right out of school. There's actually very little curriculum type stuff on the exam, that one in particular at least. FE and PE in EVEG are very different, I passed the FE easily because it was straight out of your class stuff but PE took me three tries, it currently has one of the lowest pass rates of all the disciplines in the last few years.
No way I'd support the ability to take PE right out of school. Good luck and if for some reason you're not successful just get back at it. Though most all of my LSU civil buddies passed easily on first try.
