Why do so many OT 'ers hate New Orleans

New Orleans has consistently been appearing on these list for smartest, best job market, etc for a couple years now.
Why so much hate (semingly) in - state for this huge growth?
For years people on here mocked New Orleans for having a tourism based economy, lacking a strong working class, real jobs, etc....now there seems to be hate because we have these things and there is a national recognition that New Orleans is one of the hottest cities in America for tech jobs, medical jobs, etc.

I don't hate on New Orleans for it's growth and success. I just don't like it. It's not my style. At least not all of it. I like to go eat there and sit outside and drink but that's about all I like it for.

I don't think anyone actually hates New Orleans so much as they enjoy watching New Orleans residents work themselves into a lather just because someone ripped on their city.
It's kind of the same type deal as people saying LSU fans smell like corndogs. It's not that people literally think LSU fans smell like corndogs, it's just fun to watch them react when people bring it up.

Love to visit but hated living there. It just doesn't offer enough to offset all the negatives in my opinion. Everybody is different though

It's obvious. As someone not from La. that now lives in New Orleans it's jealousy. People from Baton Rouge tend to be a bit more small town, where as the New Orleanians that I know (Br. Martin, Newman, Jesuit, St Martin's grads) tend to be more worldly, wealthier, much more cosmopolitan and this seems like arrogance. I'd rather my kids grow up on 1st St NO rather than in rural Baton Rouge. Also too many Baptists here with their sense of religious superiority.

I feel like a lot of OT posters are of the mindset that something being bigger or newer or more expensive automatically makes it "better". Such an attitude does not lend itself to appreciating the great and unique things about the city.
