I am just now getting into turkey hunting. I have a 12 guage pump for dove hunting, but I want a separate shotgun for turkey hunting. What does everyone use for a turkey gun here? TIA

Crack barrel 10 gauge with 32" barrel, chocked full and 3.5" shells...

I've been using my Remington 870 12ga.with turkey choke and 3" shells for years now. Longest shot taken so far was ~50 yards no problem.

Remington 870, TruGlo turkey sights (rear ring, front bead), extended ported extra full choke, whatever 3 1/2" turkey shells.

Is your 870 chambered for 3.5" shells? Mine is for 3" shells but wondering if I could shoot a 3.5". Also, what load you shooting?

Yes I have the supermag turkey edition, basically just camo w/ 26" barrel vs 28".
I shoot any 3.5" #4's that aren't ridiculously priced. Paw paw killed many a turkey with a 3" crack barrel 12 ga w/ no choke. Get em inside 40 yds, aim for the middle of the neck and it's game over.

Wrong, Versa Max is the only answer here.

Sold guns for a while @ Bowie Outfitters. The Versa Max never sold well, not sure why. I think it was a weird price point. Seems people didn't want to pay 1k+ for a Remington and opted for the Beretta A400 (have one - love it), SBEII (friends have - love) or Super Vinci (mixed reviews).
My duck/turkey/dove guns are:
Remington 870 supermag
Remington 11-87 (3")
Beretta A400.
I shoot them all very well and can't say that I prefer one over the other in most situations. All excellent guns

A man of knowledge. I bought one in 1962 been killing turkeys for 52 years with it. Not gobbling where i'm hunting now.

I'm actually going to use the Montefeltro because I haven't hunted with it yet.

Remington 887 28" barrel 3.5 inch 4 shot cheap gun that's very durable and is great for turkey hunting

If going automatic I'd go Benelli/Browning/Beretta in 12 guage. Some will disagree; however, I'm of the opinion that 3" Mag is plenty. With the heavyweight loads they are creating you just don't need the additional payload the 3.5" offers.
I'd get a quality choke, I prefer Indian Creek but they are all very good nowadays. With heavyweight #6 or #7 a .665 to .680 constriction does very well.
I'd advise against using the factory bead sights. Fiber optic pins, traditional scopes or reflex sights offer real benefits for ultra close and also longer distance shots.
If you want a lesson on how to frick up a turkey hunt you could have been with me this morning. Had one hammering on the roost and got too close. Bastard spotted me and spent two hours on the limb taunting me.
