GOP Hawks Worry Rand Paul Has Too Much Ron

A group of Republican donors is pledging to stop the tea party favorite from winning the 2016 presidential nomination because of his more non-interventionist views on foreign policy
LAS VEGAS—Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is hard at work laying the groundwork for an almost-certain presidential campaign in 2016, but as he broadens his support among libertarian and younger voters, there’s a budding counter-campaign to take him down if he becomes a threat to actually win the nomination.
At the Republican Jewish Coalition meeting in Las Vegas this weekend, Paul was nowhere to be found, but his presence was felt in the form of a straw man—and frequent worry. Speaker after speaker, from former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, laid into Paul’s more isolationist views on foreign policy beliefs. They never mentioned the lawmaker by name, but the message came across loud and clear.
...
On the margins of the conference, where attendees heard from four potential 2016 candidates who advocated for a strong American foreign policy and support for Israel, five donors huddled with a reporter pledged to reach into their deep pockets to ensure Paul doesn’t win the GOP nomination.
“The best thing that could happen is Ted Cruz and Rand Paul run and steal each others’ support,” said one of the donors, “but if not, we’ll be ready to take Paul down.”
Several prominent GOP donors at the conference suggested that Adelson, who spent more than $100 million backing Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney in 2012, is likely to spend vast sums against Paul if he appears to be well positioned in the Republican primaries. Adelson’s spending is largely motivated by his strong concern for Israel, and Paul’s positions are may well put a target on his back.

I've called it for months, along with some other semi intelligent people on here... The GOP will destroy Paul in the primaries and push another shitty candidate to the top, who will then lose in the GE

Paul should scare the GOP establishment.
The fact that anyone would spend millions to change an election over Israel is insane.

This fight will be won or lost on semantics. If Rand can get people using the term "non-interventionist" he has a great shot. If his opponents successfully brand him as "isolationist" he is likely in trouble.

Recently I read an article at the American Conservative that predicted the neocon portion of the Republican establishment would endorse Hillary if Paul were the nominee, and with Hillary getting more neocon everyday, I can see this happening.
EDIT: Last week Chris Matthews said that he's worried about where Hillary going with her recent foreign policy speeches, and this morning Joe Scarborough said that she's even too hawkish for him.

Paul needs to excite a huge grassroots movement to win. He needs to get funding from that... Everyday Americans sending him small donations. There are big money guys who will try to bring him down through outspending to get someone in office to protect their own interests rather than the nations best interests. I hope people realize that the current democrat and republican parties are a cancer to this country and we need someone like paul to change it

Jennifer Rubin is already comparing him to Charles Lindbergh, so the Neville Chamberlain comparisons can't be too far behind.

I watched Morning Joe today, and every single panelist wore a feathered fedora and pimped Jeb Bush.
Joe admitted that the big money GOP did not support Paul.

I have a feeling Rand Paul is going to overwhelm The Republican Establishment in the primaries, and not vice versa. I just have that gut feeling .

Is that a bad thing?
I'm left of 90% of this board and both Ron and Rand Paul would get my vote over most Democrats.

The Democratic establishment has as much contempt for its base as the Republican establishment does, as evidenced by its attempt to coronate Hillary two years before the primaries even start.

I sure hope so. It's time for these elitist assholes (Rep and Dem) to get out of the way.

And it begins. The GOP will cannibalize it's best candidate for 2016.

I hope he has more Ron than I give him credit for.

That'll be the interesting aspect of this election, should Paul become the nominee.
He'll be able to run to both the left and right of Hillary and that would be an amazing thing to witness.
