well it's not that as much as hit blatant troll/misleading OP

to me, i believe it is similar to gerrymandering. when you carve out the "all minority" groups or districts, you just make the surrounding groups/districts more strongly "majority"
it's kind of the sad reality of trying to force out racism instead of allowing society to just develop integration

I'd support this decision if the Greek system wasn't buttressed by huge loans from the university to build their houses. It seems in this case that these groups are only private when the need to be.

BHP, as usual you provide keen insight. I agree with everything you stated.

Finally. Some perspective on this issue. Too bad it'll be lost in this shitfest thread of Tuba's.

I see what you're saying, but I don't see how that applies to this case.
IIRC from when this first came out, this seemed to truly be organic change, not forced integration. Weren't these black girls accepted into the sorority by their peers, but it was older alumni who had a problem and made sure these girls couldn't join? To me that is forcing IN racism.

I agree. If Sigma Nu didn't use public money (to the extent that they do), I'd feel less ashamed of their policies. I think it will be a long time before I have a black brother.

Trashy but its their right to be trashy.

no doubt that racism still exist, not the same extent as the 50s. I'd say the minorities are more openly racist than anything.
I agree with the Soro/Frat's right to allow whomever they would like into their crew and believe that it will ultimately work itself out over time in society. Adapt or fall behind. Just makes the Frat look unattractive to me as a club I would like to join as a white male. Look unattractive to enough white males and you no longer have a club.

EDIT - This thread will provide more evidence for my theory that the main purpose of the Republican party is to defend bigots and the wealthy.

no this move is totally racist, but i will almost guaran-fricking-tee you the old crew will say "they have their own sorrority"

So just because an organization is private, it can't also be racist?
Secondly, the argument as to whether these groups are public or private is completely irrelevant. They exist only insofar as the University chooses not to shut down any association with them. That is the larger point.
That the UA Chancellor has not already stepped in and issued a suspension is stunning.

Supposedly they forced out the president after Witt when he tried to integrate the Greek system. Then they put in Judy Bonner.

Its amazing how not wanting to force your will on people with violence is considered support nowadays.

Yea, I can agree with this.

Dude, stick to academics and working your way out of trash cans you've been stuffed into.
In the real world, you're out of your depth.

When the Racist Hall of Fame inducts the University of Alabama as its newest member, I hope they hang their plaque next to the one for Spiderman Tuba.
I think that's called poetic justice.

The Greek system is racist everywhere. I knew a girl who was accepted into a sorority, and multiple frats ceased participating in functions with them. Why? Because she was half Lebanese and had "darker" skin. And she was hot as all get out, but nope didn't matter.
I mean Christ they get dumber than that. I knew two girls who were HS best friends who joined the same sorority. The one girl was told she was in for sure, but she had to fight tooth and nail to get her friend into the sorority.
Why? Because her friend was a brunette. Not even kidding. The big sorority photo they do? 70 something blondes and 1 brunette. Greek system is stupid as all fricking get out.

Freedom is only valuable to the extent that one is free to do some things that others dislike.
If the OP is truly offended, I invite him to read my Sig.
So while it is perhaps a right of the Student Senators to express their viewpoints or manipulate votes, and it may be a right of frats and sororities to not "fully integrate" (whatever that actually means), it is also the right of the University to respond in kind . . . . and to respond vigorously.
Given this particular University's past reputation, it is nearly inconceivable this ugliness has been allowed to proceed at Alabama.
