Memphis Redbirds are in town April 11-14 if y'all like going to a baseball game and having a few beers
Great idea, sounds fun. Just pulled up their site and looks cool. Do you recommend Club seats or any particular area to sit?

You can usually get some good tickets if you just walk up a few hours before the game to the ticket office then go do whatever until the game.

Peabody or the Madison are good recommendations.
Will look at those two for sure. Just pulled up the Peabody and it's the one with the ducks. She'd probably think that's cool. Preference of either one or are they about the same?

Can't be that bad in the entire city can it? Or is there just some unbelievable negative people chiming in? You can find a bad part in just about every city is my opinion.

No reason to go to Memphis nowv that PP is closed.

Was there a few weeks ago. Will second the Peabody recommendation..
Gus's Fried Chicken, Rendezvous or Central BBQ are good places to eat. Beers at the Flying Saucer. Hit Beale Street once for giggles and photos.
The Gibson guitar factory is there and offers tours. Good way to kill an hour even if you arent a musician.

We have two Gibson's in the house so that would be very cool. Thanks!

I have sat in the club seats, but I have also sat on the bluff (left field lawn) and enjoyed the game and some cold beer.

The Peabody. Book now if you will be there for Memphis in May.
Have fun along Beale, and remember to check out Pink Palace, Stax, and Graceland.
If you want a more suburban hotel, go for the I-240/Poplar area.....but Peabody would be the best.

Peabody for sure. Gus Fried Chicken, get some BBQ too obviously. Memphis is so ghetto though, prayers sent

Amex isn't pulling up either the Madison or Peabody. Looks like you have to book individually on those. How is the Crowne Plaza downtown? It's pretty cheap but I'm trying to see if there's a reason it's so cheap.

The Westin next to the FedEx Forum and Beale that might be an okay alternative if The Peabody doesn't work out. It's a newer, nicer hotel right off Beale and within walking distance to everything worth seeing in that area.
The Peabody is worth it though.
Crowne Plaza and the Marriott is on the other end of downtown, so it has more convention and St Jude people staying there.....it's farther from the tourist attractions downtown.

If I was a tourist I would stay at the Peabody. More history just overall cooler. I haven't stayed there in years. I've heard the rooms themselves have fallen a little. The Madison rooms look nicer.
If you don't want to drop the change for either of those there is a Courtyard Marriott on Main St which would be absolutely fine.
Oh and if you want to drop serious coin you can stay at the River Inn. Just all depends on your preference and if you are going to stay in the room alot

just buy a cheap bluff ticket and stroll around.
the grizzlies could possibly be in the playoffs.
there is relatively new Central BBQ close to the Loraine Motel that I would highly recommend.
Enjoy Beale St but please don't compare it to Bourbon. It isn't trying to be Bourbon St.
I'd recommend hanging out at some of the places on S. Main or in the Pinch District.
oh yea, and try not to get shot as many of the mouth breathers that are posting from the safe confines of new orleans and baton rouge have suggested.
I'm out on the town more than most and so far I've been stabbed zero times.

The Crowne Plaza isn't in the greatest location to do all the fun stuff like Beale and the like.

As stated Memphis sucks, that being said I would suggest the following
Graceland - I had no interest in going but my gf and her friends loved him. Surprisingly I found it very interesting.
Tunica - When I used to go the Fitzgerald casino had a great crab leg buffet. Casinos are spread out so to visit others you usually have to drive, but there are like 9 casinos there.
Pink Palace - LINK had a blast at this place check the link for info.
If you like baseball take in a Memphis Redbirds game, AAA for the StL Cardinals and a very nice stadium.

Definitely spend some time in midtown - Overton square/cooper young where the locals hang
Check out I love Memphis blog
Don't listen to people - People love to hate Memphis but it is heading in the right direction. Lots of money being poured into the city. That being said, just like in New Orleans, BR, etc be aware of your surroundings. Downtown on the edges can get sketchy and unfortunately the end of Beale is around that area

I think that is what used to be The Brownstone. It's on the north end of downtown and away from the action.
Check out the Hampton Inn and Suites on Beale.
The Double Tree is next door to Peabody and directly across the street from Auto Zone Park.

The Crowne Plaza
this is on the far end of downtown - away from all the action. You could walk to beale street from there, but it's a hike. I'd look at the hotels in the Peabody area. If peabody and madison are out, there's a hampton inn that is basically on beale street. Also, the westin is in a good location.
There is a crawfish festival at Overton Square that saturday which is usually a blast. Overton Square is an old entertainment district that is enjoying a big time revival right now. Great part of town.

The winner was Memphis. I haven't been since I was a kid and don't know the first thing about Memphis.
Skip it and go to the much nicer and cooler Nashville.
