Anyone here have any experiences with this type of a brain tumor or relative that had one removed?

Unfortunately my only experience with brain tumors was with one of my best friends. He had glioblastoma.
I'm guessing even a benign brain tumor is still cause for concern. Find some solace knowing the situation could be worse.

Yep....had a coworker pass out while working out before work one morning. She went to the emergency room where she was diagnosed and immediately airlifted to another hospital for surgery. They sawed a hole in her skull with a hole saw and removed the tumor. She was back in the office within a couple of weeks and has had no further problems...pretty amazing, really....

Obviously depends on how big it is. (Twss)
But they are not that uncommon and surgery is generally successful with no hearing loss or any other problems.

Can be a fairly lengthy and involved surgery, if required. A lot of neurosurgeons don't do it because of this.
Nanda, in Shreveport used to specialize in that surgery.
Good technician. Didn't care for his bedside manner

My grandmother had one about 20 years ago. We went to see her and she didn't know us or where she was. They found it and it was removed the next day. It was my moms birthday the day after her surgery . I remember walking into the room and her singing Happy Birthday to my mom .
My wife (37 no pics)had brain surgery last year for an aneurysm . They can do miraculous things nowadays . She had her surgery in New Orleans .

Probably too smart to have good bedside manner- a lot of neuro docs are.
That being said, I know someone that had a benign brain tumor that had surgery and it took away all motor skills- his mind w as still sharp but he couldn't walk or speak. I'd probably just watch it and see before I rushed into surgery

Have you settled on a neurosurgeon yet?

Generally not a big deal.. They will monitor the growth via MRI before determining whether or not to remove. Has it had any effect on your hearing or balance systems, yet?

had a friend who had a benign brain tumor that they couldn't operate on because of the location. however, they new that it would continue to grow and eventually take my friend's life.
he died 3 years ago.

I have to have it removed. It is causing me to have dizzy spells and constant ringing in my ear. Gonna have it removed at Our Lady of the Lake in BR next month.

This, but my family member has to wear hearing aids in both ears now.

Best of luck man. My wife had a craniotomy last year and had a few rough weeks but is completely back to normal. You will be just fine.

Treatment depends on size and location of tumor, amount of hearing loss, patient's age and comorbidities and can include surgery (different approaches but may take any residual hearing), gamma knife/radiation, or observation

Good luck man. I don't care to hear about rumors of any sort. Prayers to you for a full recovery.

I hope the surgery goes smoothly. It is a fairly easy surgery (they can do with under local anesthesia with you awake or they will put you down if you'd prefer) and an acoustic neuroma rarely turns into anything malignant, so you don have anything to worry about! Glad it's the cause of your tinnitus and vertigo so you don't have to live with controlling that for the rest if your life!
