I was positive and said ten. Other person in conversation was, i believe, more realistic and said three.
What do you think?
for the record, i am 35 and knew the answer. other person in conversation is older and did not know the answer

I didnt know, but to be honest I didnt really try to think of what it stood for.
Besides I starting laughing when Cingular came across my mind.

I wonder how many know what NASA stands for?

American Telephone and Telegraph Company.
I wonder if some don't know what FedEx stands for or IBM.
BMW was a bonus question on a test in HS once (silly teacher) I got it wrong and put Berlin Motor Works.
(best bonus question ever was name the five three stooges).

Well I feel good then. You are a little older than me and I knew what it was short for. But then I am unreal smart.

American Telephone & Telegraph

American Telephone and Telegraph, but I wouldn't look down on anybody who wouldn't know what it stands for (I'm 25, but I tend to read Wikipedia a lot).
Those same 30 college kids probably couldn't tell you what the Bell System even was, or that competitors Verizon and the modern AT&T are leftovers from the old Bell System.
