I think the most likely scenario is one of the pilots was suicidal and just flew the plane straight down into the ocean.
Not possible. The plane would've absolutely been found by now if that were the case.

My current theory is attempted hijacking and eventual crash, possibly due to crew or passenger intervention.

Yep. Haven't seen anything to make me come off of it.

can that happen on a commercial airplane?

Sure...it is pressurized just like Payne Stewart's private jet.

but commercial planes deploy mask when cabin pressure changes...it can';t be fast enough to where you can't put on a mask?

Ehhhhh, yes. Don't turn this into another moronic game of semantics and technicalities. The "general direction" of the ME is West of the last known location. The picture in this thread is a rough draft. They could have turned much sooner, making the path look more directly West, or even NNW, which I assume is what you're looking for.

quote: Anyone remember Payne Stewart's plane crash? Plane took off in Florida, depressurized at altitude and literally flew across the country with everyone on board dead until it ran out of fuel and crashed. I wonder if something similar may have occurred here as well? can that happen on a commercial airplane?

Yes that can happen to any aircraft. Sudden cabin pressure change can cause hypoxia which would ultimately kill everyone if they do not go on oxygen. Oxygen is required above 12k

Not really. Depends where they were looking.

If they put it straight in the ground, it could be a very long time before they find it though. If it's in the ocean, it will be found soon.

I'm leaning towards hijacked and shot down.

If someone wanted to just crash the plane, they wouldn't have to take it off course and go in the opposite direction. The same goes for if there were a mechanical failure.

From the shown path, it seems to me like someone had a destination in mind. The plane is going in a completely different route than its scheduled flight plan, contact is made with terrorists on board or aircraft refuses to respond to communication attempts, government decides to take the plane down rather than allow it to possibly cause more destruction if used in a terror attack. They are not coming forward due to the families of the onboard victims.

The masks in Payne Stewart's plane deployed but someone turned the the oxygen tanks OFF.

If that turn and cross back over the peninsula how was the plane not spotted on radar on the return path? That makes no sense. (and a Malaysian official is the only one that knew about it.)

With as much as you all seem to be experts on this type of thing I am surprised that Fox news or CNN hasn't hit you up yet for a interview...hell maybe you all could lead the search!

Countries don't just shoot down commercial airlines.

Well, besides America, but we owned up to it and paid those families 7 years later.

There was that Korean airliner shot down by the Russians in the '80s.

Russia (okay, USSR - same difference) - KAL007 - already been covered in this thread.

Wtodd - nice jinx.

Go play somewhere else nancy. Of course everyone is just throwing stupid shite guesses out there.

I'm just still laughing at those who claimed it was not a big area in that tiny sea and debris would have been found by now. They apparantly weren't even searching in the correct body of water.

At the risk of thousands more lives they would. If you don't think governments would sacrifice the 230 to prevent a crash in a highly populated metropolitan area, you are crazy.

That isn't true.
