I think someone will take Gordon, IF the Pels are willing taking basically nothing in return for him.

While nobody in the league likes Gordon's contract, I'm pretty sure that there also plenty of people around the league who don't consider him as a crappy player, either. I have always maintained there's a decent chance that he can be moved after this season.

“Player X is just a guy.” Seriously, “just a guy” is happening around the NBA in a way “fetch” never could. Front-office types apply it as a mild insult to a pretty good player making something like $6 million to $10 million per year.

The implication is that you can get 80 percent of that player’s production on something close to a minimum salary, making it silly to give up anything of real value — gobs of money, a single first-round pick — for such a player.

While this is no doubt true, teams still have budgets that they have to spend. The reason there are so many overpaid "just a guy"s in the league is because at some point "just a guy" is all that's left on the market, and another common phrase amongst NBA GMs is "it only takes one a-hole".

Give this team a real coach and allow Gordon to actually showcase his abilities instead of getting to play 2v5 every night.

Provided he stays healthy, he will be movable. Gordon is a very high IQ player and arguably the best pure passer on our team in the sense of mechanics and natural ability.

It really does sound like beating a dead horse, but moving Monty potentially solves so many problems.

The penalty for failing to reach the floor is hardly a deterrent. They split the difference between the players on the roster.

If Philly hadn't gotten a pick from Indiana, I believe they would have been quite happy to stay below the floor

Long thought the trades would be this summer at the earliest. Gordon can be moved, but it will be a team looking for a name rather than production

The deterrent is ticket sales. No one gets excited with a marketing promotion built around The Tank. It's better to give a Carl Landry a 1 year/$9 million deal than ride well paid DLeaguers to the worst record.

Would love to land one of these guys. Young but experienced up and coming players at a position of need.

Hawes actually would be a nice fit in NO. But he is not a good player. And nowhere close to Monroe.

Not trading for an overpaid and flawed player =/= tank.

But we agree that the team that would take Gordon has pressures on it besides cap flexibility

I seriously do not see one GM dumb enough to trade for Gordon right now. It would almost be as dumb as trading for Amare. He is a limited, out of shape, over paid player with a body made of glass. He isn't a name anymore, if he ever was. He is the 3rd or 4th best player on a sub .500 team making top 20 player money. He is just unmovable. I've accepted it a long time ago and its why I gave up on Demps shorty after he gave him that stupid contract..

That's not true this year and previous years were definitely affected by injuries.

It's not about being dumb enough to think Gordon is better than he is, it's about being in a situation where Gordon actually looks like a good option compared to your other options. Take Charlotte for instance. They are in "Win Now" mode, SG is by far their biggest need, they may not have a lottery pick in 2014, and will have enough cap space to absorb Gordon straight up. How does Charlotte get better next year without giving up assets? Sure you could trade for Afflalo, but you have to give up significant assets to do that. No big Free Agents will sign with them. They only got Jefferson last year because the supply of teams with cap space and big name free agents was different, there is too much money chasing FAs this year for that to happen again.

I understand what you are saying, but you are overlooking a simple point. You can get similar or better players for cheaper money. You can contact the Bucks and trade a 2nd rounder for OJ Mayo, they would do it in a heart beat. You would get the same production for almost half the money. I can find a ton of guys like that. A lot of teams are looking to dump players. I just read an article where the Bucks talked about picking up Gordon and they realized it just wasn't worth it. That was in exchange for two of their bad contracts (Mayo and Illyasova however you spell it). The bad teams are wising up, unfortunately for us..

I don't think you can. I'm not trying to be argumentative with you, just trying to work out the details. Starting caliber SGs that are available and still in their prime:

Gordon
Tyreke
Mayo
Thornton (may not be available any more)
Afflalo (have to give up assets to acquire)
Waiters (will cost assets to acquire)
Evan Turner (will cost a 4 year big money deal)
Sefalosha (more a part time starter and more 3 and D role player than offensive creator)

Mayo's the only other guy I can come up with that you can possibly have for next to nothing and less than a 4 year commitment.

Even if the Pels can somehow find a taker for Gordon without taking anything back, how do they get better? Do they really want to bring in another big contract? Even if they decide to split that money up they are probably going to have to overpay for good role players like Marvin Williams or CJ Miles. CJ Miles the basketball player isn't even the top result when you google CJ Miles.

Trading Gordon leaves us with Tyreke at the 2. One step forward, two steps back.

That's not a bad thing if you have Jrue and a shooter at the 3 spot.

it's very simple...people act like he's Aminu on offense.

he's overpaid and only playing 25 MPG in a confusing role...he's still a good player.

Aminu is a better shooter, actually.
