LA, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Colorado, etc.
The new New York team should do well considering it will actually be in New York.
the only place that has really struggled with attendance has been dallas

Does an MLS team work anywhere besides the northwest?
I think there are some stable franchises in other areas as well. But the ones in the pacific northwest are the only recent examples of a professional franchise being able to organically grow and build a culture.
I really think the MLS did things the right way with how they incorporated those teams into the fold.

yea the Sounders and Timbers were minor league teams for a very long time. So adding those franchises was already a sure fire good move.

I mean partially true, bad owners and an awful team in a non-hockey loving city wasn't looking good
Hard to fill the seats when they trade all the good players away.
I think an ATL MLS team could make it by with 15k per game.

Most MLS teams average between 15-20K. The Sounders are the lone exception, they average about 44K

The Hawks average just over 14k and I don't know if I'd trust the MLS to sell as many. I guess with so many fewer games it might work but I just don't see it.

ATL is a HUGE soccer market. The thing is that doesn't always translate into butts in seats.
NOLA just isn't a big enough market, period. And definitely not a big enough soccer market.

People always say something like this, but it doesn't mean anything.

attendance is decent when the team is good.
problem is the owners do pretty much nothing when it comes to advertising and getting the word out.
it didnt help that for years MLS scheduled several games during summer in the afternoon.

quote:Yeah. I mean Atlanta has probably the best high school basketball talent and erm...the demographic for NBA fans...in the city, but the Hawks still don't sell out unless people want to go see Lebron live. I think if Atlanta gets a team they'd have to move them to around where the Braves new stadium is going. I don't think the Georgia Dome version 2 would be a good venue.

Also, the price tag is 100+M. Beckham got a discount

Orlando will do pretty well, attendance wise. They already get 15k while in the USL-Pro.
Then if/when Miami happens, that's 22 clubs. I really don't think there needs to be any more, but if there are it would have to be either ATL or somewhere in NC IMO. I just don't see a situation where NOLA is a good option for MLS. Maybe for NASL or USL, though.

And the reason for this is their stupid decision to leave the Cotton Bowl and move to the suburbs.
