No doubt plus in my business I have to network and be out and about a lot. Not to mention if I'm not at the office I feel isolated and out of touch, I like to be where the phone rings so I can have a handle on who and what's going on. On the other hand, being at the office also gives me the flexibility to take 2 hour lunches.

I do a half day on the road checking on my contractors and half the day in my home office. I love it, other than on days like today when everyone else is off.

I don't care for it. I never really felt home, nor did I ever feel like I was at work. The boundary was blurred and it made it difficult for me to separate the two.

I'd be much better at it if I had an office.
This is a must, a room that is dedicated to just work.

I did it today. Got nothing done. Didn't even start until 3. Then got the news we weren't going in tomorrow either. Shut the computer down the instant I got the email
I could never do this.

I can't do shite. Sleep late, drink coffee, make breakfast w the kids, lay around. Realize it's 2pm, think "I gotta do some work". 3 pm, Get on computer, answer 2 emails, read the OT for the 50th time, realize its almost 5 and quit.

I have worked at home full time since 2008, and part time from 2004-08.
It works for me but it doesn't work for everyone. I probably get as much done at home as I did at the office, maybe a tad more, and I love having an extra 2 hrs a day (commute/getting ready/lunch) for me, but sometimes it can be hard to disconnect and /or focus.
It takes a fair amount of discipline to accomplish this. If you don't think you can do it, don't. I have seen people lose their jobs pretty quickly b.c they couldn't get shite done at work. I had one friend that started drinking and thought no one noticed. He was wrong, it was clear he was shite canned. And he eventually got let go.

I enjoy working from home and get more done than at the office. It's good for busy work, spreadsheets etc.

I have plans to move my office home once I find someone to take some of my current in office responsibilities away. Looking forward to it too.

Its easy for a day, or even a couple of weeks, but you won't be even close to as productive as you would be at an office long term.
Not true for everyone. I work from home every day and probably get more done because I used to be in an open air office where the rest of my co-workers could distract me.
OP: just get a routine. I don't have a separate office (although I will wherever we move next), but I don't sit at my desk unless I am working. I don't work on the couch. I don't do laundry while I work or anything else that I couldn't do at the office.

Anyone else doing this at the moment? Any tips? Thanks
I've worked from home for 3+ years now. There are studies showing that employees are more productive at home....don't have to participate on all the office jibber jabber bullshite. I love it, mostly. Gets old by about Thursday each week when I am in my house all the time though.

This is just not true. I used to waste so much time in the office chatting with people, getting coffee for 20 minutes, etc. Working from home regularly, you just get into a good work mode.
You need a dedicated "office" at home for sure. And our company uses all video phones, so we still have that face to face interaction with coworkers. My coworkers are in Virginia, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Califonia. I get to "see" them everyday.

I pretty much work from home most of the time when I am not onsite with a client. The main thing to remember is just to get your shite done. There isn't a right or wrong way to work from home, it is whatever works for you. If someone believes you are competent enough to not need observation all the time, show them that you mean business and can complete the assigned tasks.
Some of the suggestions people have made are good, but they may not work for everyone. Personally, I'll work in my home office, at the dining table, on the couch, or even outside on the patio. I'll start working sometimes at 5 am if I wake up early, and have sometimes started my day as late as 9 am. Also, I do get tired of being at home, so I'll stop by a coffee shop or something to get out of the house.
Honestly, I believe the next few years will be a turning point for more people having the flexibility to work from home. It was more than evident today, when most of my friends and acquaintances were posting how they were getting some of their work done today without traveling in freezing rain to the office.
Again, the most important thing to remember is to find what works the best for you. After a few weeks of trial and error, you'll realize when and where you do your best work, and you'll be even more productive when you do.
