Plans to develop a streetcar along Nicholson Drive are beginning to take shape, according to Portland, Ore.-based consultant John Fregonese, who is helping the city-parish implement its new master plan, FuturEBR. Fregonese says he is working on a conceptual plan for a three-mile streetcar line that would run along Nicholson Drive from LSU to North Boulevard Town Square downtown, connecting, along the way, new planned developments for the area including the 34.8-acre River District, and the Water Campus, a research park devoted to coastal studies.

The streetcar will cost an estimated $60 million, as much as 80% of which could potentially be covered by federal grant funds.
What is the likelyhood that this would actually happen?

It'll probably stop running at midnight and be completely useless to college students.

It would be a nice target for student mugging ala the new apt complex on west McKinley. Good way to keep the hood rats busy.

It might, if the River District along Nicholson across from Magnolia Mound actually goes through.

This could be a huge boost for D-Town if planned accordingly. I would like to see all that open area between Garfield and Oklahoma on the west side of Nicholson turn into high end row houses.
This would give BR a new look and would be a positive step in gentrifying that area.

I would absolutely love to start implementing more streetcars/trams and phasing cars out. While the auto industry would never let this happen, it would be awesome.

I have full confidence that this project will be completed.
