Considering half of the people pay nothing or negative tax rates, you're an idiot.

You do realize that a large part of the flat tax is to clean that mess up right?

Of course you did.

But you don't pay that on all of your income. Stop being silly.

100%. We'd need it high to make up for the 47% that don't pay tax. Now get to work!

Saw this bumper sticker about 20 years ago. If 10% is good enough for God, it should be good enough for the Government

Politicians are not that disciplined.

That's why a national sales tax passed as being the only tax allowable and the % rate would need to be passed as a Constitutional Amendment. Any other way and whatever tax and whatever rates will be political footballs eventually.

Because if there are exceptions then it's not really a "flat" tax. If you allow one exception, DC will eventually make more and more and we would eventually end up right back where we are today, that's why.

What are the parameters of a "true flat tax rate"? Would someone living in poverty with children pay the same rate as someone that made millions? It wouldn't make sense to tax someone that would already be getting assistance.

Why not? They are using the system most but put the least into it. I'll agree that argument has some merit though. It's part of why I am more for a national sales tax.

When you say no deductions you are not talking about business expenses. Right?

always been a fan of the Steve Forbes plan. He would have had my vote if he got the nod.

But now you're just being stupid for the sake of being stupid. With less net income they would need to use the system more. So they'd just be trading the money back and forth. So stupid.

Wrong. When I say NO deductions, I mean NO deductions.
Same with interest on mortgages; same on charitable contributions. NOTHING. That's how you can get it revenue neutral with everyone paying 16%.

Get rid of income taxes. Standard federal sales tax coast to coast. And that includes all internet purchases. No loopholes. I'm sure how to handle overseas purchases.

That depends on whose perspective you're taking, and whether or not the government would actually pass and stick to a budget without deficit spending. A lot of moving parts to just throw a number out as a swag.
