Cleaning fish at camp - legal question

We have a hunting camp down off lake decade, so anytime we make a trip we clean all our fish at the camp to make life easy. Well I was going through the fishing regulations, and it basically states you can't have any filleted fish on the boat when you come in.
Does this cause any legal issues for us? For example we roll up to the landing with an ice chest of cleaned fish and get stopped by green jeans. Do we get screwed since they won't be able to tell sizes/type of fish?

Does your camp have a freezer?
If so freeze them and you should be fine.

by the letter of the law you are limited to your possession limit, regardless of where you are at, even your home freezer, that being said there is a lot of professional judgement involved in enforcement.

then you gotta wait there. What if they aren't staying the night. I can see why the OP does this. I would too.

Exactly. Any time we stay we do freeze them which would help.
My main concern is day trips where they won't be frozen. I can see how it would look sketchy coming in to the landing.

Yeah technically they could sit at Falgout canal launch and write a ton of tickets for this every weekend. Not any different than filleting fish offshore to be able to bring more in. Once filleted they can't tell the species or size with any degree of certainty. Sure you could count fillets and most people can tell the diff between trout, redfish and sheephead fillets but green jeans won't bother
That said just about everyone with a camp out on the water cleans their fish before bringing them home. I know i sure as hell wouldn't want to deal with that mess once i got home from a weekend at the camp.

Yes, you are not supposed to clean the fish until finaly place of consumption. The only reason you should have filleted fish on your boat is if you cook them on your boat.

yes. I have a marsh camp on Oak bayou and my dad got popped for doing exactly this. Now, I don't think the ADA will exactly hammer you for this since it is a ridiculous law and he is a fisherman familiar with the area, but you can and will get popped for this.

all of our lives got harder after he got busted. now we have to clean at the landing
ETA: he got popped in the nav canal in front of four point

Pretty sure possession limits do not apply at your home

This is from the LDWF website:
Fishing Regulations
"All saltwater finfish caught in possession of
a recreational angler must have the head
and caudal fin intact until set on shore.
Garfish may have the head and caudal fin
removed prior to the fish being on shore as
long as a sufficient patch of skin that clearly
identifies the fish remains on the fish.
Exception: Tuna, swordfish and shark
possessed by a recreational angler must not
be skinned or scaled until set or put on
shore. Tuna that meet minimum size
requirements may have the head removed if
the carcass length is in excess of the minimum
total length. See Lengths on page 14.
Fillets may not be possessed on the water,
except for the purpose of consumption at
sea aboard the harvesting vessel. An individual
must not have more than 2 pounds
of finfish parts per person in state waters,
or more than 1.5 pounds of finfish parts per
person in federal waters, on board the vessel,
provided that the vessel is equipped to
cook finfish and that the finfish does not
exceed applicable bag limits. These provisions
do not apply to bait species.
Saltwater finfish caught or transported by a
recreational fisherman are presumed to
have been caught in Louisiana waters, for
license requirements.
All regulations regarding these species
apply whether caught in freshwater or saltwater
areas."

Damn. Guess were lucky we haven't been stopped.
Seems like there would be an exception for camp owners with frozen fillets.

Or just for camp owners. I don't have full time electricity and a freezer like you candy boys.

No full time power but we got a generator and a mini fridge/freezer

This has come up before - I think once you get to your home/residence with them - you are in good shape possession limit wise.
Asked this question to a federal agent a few years ago regarding ducks - and it got a green light.
another thing is to keep a log of who gave you those fish.....and when they were caught...

I was told by GJ once that according to the regs they can write you up for having over the possession limit in your freezer, doesn't matter if it's dated from multiple years. He said he isn't aware of them ever enforcing it, except for huge poaching cases where someone was being staked out for multiple serious violations (think selling deer meat and protected species type stuff) and they wanted to make sure to hit with as many charges as possible.

Interesting that the freshwater reg regarding filets appears to be less restrictive:
quote:
No person shall possess filleted fish while aboard a vessel in freshwater. However, for the
purpose of consumption, a person shall have no more than 2 pounds of filleted finfish per
person on board a vessel in freshwater.

soco790 Where at off of lake decade we have one in Fishermans Retreat

The possession limit at home may be enforceable according to federal waterfowl regs based on what I was just reading
As for fish and other state regulated game, it will depend on state laws

I think at some point it becomes food and the strict possession limits and such don't apply anymore.
