Didn't Dalton absolutely run over a linebacker for the Gators that went on to become a huge player in the NFL while crossing the goal line on a TD? Can't recall who it was, but it was a spectacular hit and you could tell the guy had no idea Dalton was bringing that to him.

Wasn't born yet but I know everything about dalton Hilliard. Had his cards when I was a kid.

Yep Daltin opened some eyes that day. He was a great runner very elusive and thighs as big as tree trunks.

1982 team was my favorite growing up. Damn strong defense!!
Yep one of my favorite teams as well. Magical year.

quote:Agree, guy was a phenom. Kind of a squat down runner, amazingly shifty, and had a lot of power with those tree-trunk thighs.
Many here are too young to remember Dalton as an LSU player, but that guy was phenomenal. No LSU running back since, maybe excluding Kevin Faulk, has ever been as good.
Cecil, Hill, Toefield, Addai, Smith, Davis, etc.... don't even compare. (Cecil had the chance, but blew it)

That's him! As I recall, Dalton absolutely destroyed him at the goal line. Think he was a junior at the time and was already every well respected, and he got run the frick over by this little freshman.

Didn't see him as a tiger, but I did as a Saint.

The screen pass against Florida is my single favorite offensive play in LSU history.
Its near the top of my list as well.
Screen pass against florida 82
Dalton catching the pass and running it while the oranges were flying before he even got the the endzone. Plus Risher's bomb to Eric Martin are my favorites.

Remember listening to this game on radio with J Ferguson calling like a boss. Good ole days when we celebrated like heck being #11
JH may well be the better (faster, stronger) back but DH just played with so much heart back then!

Jeremy Hill couldn't hold Dalton's jock strap. Seriously, it's not even close.

I guess I should know this, but "Smith" escapes me?

Thanks for posting this. 82 was a great season. I recall watching Willie Gault run a kickoff back for Tennessee in Tiger Stadium. The Florida St game in November was wild - with oranges on the field and heavy fog in the 2nd half.

Well OK then, that settles it!

I was playing golf at Plantation golf course in New Orleans and listened to that game on the radio.

Loved the '82 team - The Dalton-James gang, Lance Smith, "ET phone home" Martin, James Britt, Jeffrey Dale, Liffort Hobley, Eugene Daniel, Shawn Burks, Leonard Marshall, Rydell Melancon, Clay Parker & Juan Betanzos.
Great memories from that football season - especially the Florida State game.

Unbelievable season!!!
Dalton wasn't even recruited and Gary James was all world. Dalton started over GJ and was really fun to watch.
Willie Gault broke our back with a kickoff return to tie that game 24-24.
MSU players were outside the staduim in uniform celebrating that win over LSU. There were fights all over the place after that game. I will NEVER go back to Starksville.
LSU crushed bama. Bama had 0 1st downs at halftime. I was there!
The orange game was crazy!!! Jim Henderson got hit in the face with an orange, and had a huge black eye. That fog was wild- it came at the end of the 3rd qtr, and you could barely see the field by the end of the game.
Lost to Nebraska 21-20 in orange bowl. Quit my job to make that trip. Great memories
