Went to Omi last night and got this and the Omi pork...both of which were extremely delicious. I have to say though, it did make me nervous that the menu had no descriptions of the food. The specials board also had no English at all on it. Food was great, but unless they do a better job of being accessible to the people of this city, I can't see them lasting here. It's a shame.

Just past Drusilla on the left going towards Tara Blvd. Real dive. Don't wear any good clothes in there unless you like a good smokey smell. I think the place blows but that's just me.

Jay, that whole area of town, falling by the way side in property value is now the most diverse area for food in BR. Little Saigon should be on the list as well. It's time for BR to get the word out about the food in this area(other than Anthony's).
Excellent source material for Jay. good idea. I know you're not jay, Ron.

Haters gonna hate.. I stay away from Lo Mein though, cause it's usually just a big greasy carb fest.. I go for the Chicken and Vegetables, light on the sauce.. and make my Cajun Grain brown Jasmine rice at home. Phenomenal. Also.. the Black Pepper Chicken is the bomb.

Also, please, please, please do a big piece on Omi's Chinese menu. It's not hidden because a huge portion of this city's population are mouthbreathers and drive past it every day, but just ignore it in favor of Chili's or Applebee's.
Omi really needs big exposure because most of Baton Rouge would rather eat dogshit before supporting a really good restaurant. The rest of us should know about that place, though.
Omi's Chinese menu. Do it.
Agree.
Breaks my heart every time I go in there and it's empty.
The Garlic Sauce Eggplant might be one of the best things I've ever eaten anywhere.
More people need to know about this place.. and NOT order sushi rolls.

Omi really needs to put descriptions on the Chinese menu. I don't let it stop me from going, but having to call over the owner to explain the menu to me every time I want to try something new gets old.
Yeah, I agree with that. If you want people of BR to experience real Chinese, you have to reach out to them with some effort. They need some advertising.. something that finds a tactful way of letting people know it's not run-of-the-mill Americanized Chinese food. And then they need to put descriptions on the menu because "Ants Climbing Trees" tells me nothing.
Amen!! Best Chinese in BR..and it's not even close.
Hope they survive and eventually thrive..but at times the parking lot and empty seats suggest dive?

Everything I've had there has been extremely greasy. Don't get the love at all. Defines mediocre.

I am slowly but surely working my way through this list. Seriously, I am planning on going to every establishment named and trying every dish mentioned

Willie's is the closed thing BR has to Darrell's.

Would Pocorello's be considered a hidden gem or do most people know about it?
Know what about it? The poboys (roast beef and meatball) are mediocre, and the service is rude. I listened to the fat daughter(?) curse the whole time I was waiting, and Mrs. Pokie was like a damn surly bartender, acting like she was doing me a favor by serving me. I don't get the love for this place at all.

I think China Bear was much better 5 or so years ago than it is now....maybe they have new owners now?

David's Tiger Express on Hooper. Never been in there and not had to wait in line for atleast 10 minutes. Try the Tiger Burger, or Friday steak night.
Jerry Lee's on Greenwell Springs for boudin, hog head cheese ect.....
Ronnies on Florida is great too.
