Early reviews of Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity' are overwhelmingly positive

As scripted by Cuaron and his son Jonas, this tale of one woman’s grim expedition into the unknown is a nerve-shredding suspenser, a daring study in extreme isolation, and one of the most sophisticated and enveloping visions of space travel yet realized onscreen. It falls among that increasingly rare breed of popular entertainments capable of prompting genuine “How did they do that?” reactions from even the most jaded viewers, even as its central premise is so simple and immediately gripping that one might just as readily ask, “Why didn’t anyone do it sooner?”

good to know bc the commercials make it look like crap

Love the premise. Hate Sandra Bullock. Another role where I think she'll be fine but there are so many great actresses out there that could probably put out a powerhouse performance with this material.

The trailers obviously don't really show anything except the beginning.

Is the whole movie just her floating around in space? Sounds kinda lame but I'll still watch.

When I think about this role and what I think it calls for, I come to the conclusion it needs the female version of Tom Hanks in Cast Away.

i thought the trailer was gripping, so i'm glad to hear the rest of it is the same.

This is my problem. I don't think I can stand watching Sandra Bullock alone in space for 2 hours. The trailer alone confirms that she is terrible in this movie. "Ah! Ah! AH! AHH! Ah! Ah!" JESUS Stop it. Her portrayal of "frantic" makes me want to drown kittens and punt puppies. Would have rather seen any number of leading ladies in this movie.
I would have preferred any one of these:
Rachel Weisz
Julianne Moore
Jennifer Connelly
Scarlett Johansson
Carey Mulligan
Emily Blunt
Tilda Swinton
Rooney Mara
Hilary Swank
Amy Adams
Cate Blanchett
Marion Cotillard
Gwyneth Paltrow
Jennifer Lawrence (though probably too young)
Natalie Portman
Anne Hathaway
Michelle Williams
Kate Winslet
Jessica Chastain

Can't wait for this movie. Despite the shitstorm that was the summer, it looks like the year will finish more strongly.

Every movie gets overwhelmingly positive early reviews

This. Big time.
And SB is a good actress...still no clue why she gets so much hate around here.

Because people think it's "cool" to hate on her.

She's not terrible, but I don't peg her for being a great dramatic actress.

She's definitely not one of my favorites, but I wouldn't be turned off of seeing a movie because she's in it. I think Gravity looks fantastic, and it's one of the few movies I'll pay extra money to see in IMAX.

Motherfricker, I know my movies. This will be legit.
ETA: Notice how these early reviews are coming from legit, big sources such as Variety and The Daily Telegraph. They aren't coming from some no-name blogger like most early reviews for big summer movies.
