what dishes are always best when made at home?

Each year at this time I look forward to picking that perfect tomato from the garden, cutting it int thick slices, cooking some high-quality bacon, lightly toasting some whole wheat bread, spreading some mayo and mustard, adding a few leaves of romaine. Pile it all together and digging in. I have never had a BLT at a restaurant the equals what I can make at home with garden fresh tomatoes. I am a faily good cook, but good restaurants can often beat what I make at home. What dishes that you make cannot be topped at a restaurant?

Jambalaya and gumbo. I think it is because you are so set on your own style that when it isn't exactly the same it is easy to critique.

Crawfish etoufee--either it's short on crawfish or short on flavor when I'm stupid enough to order it somewhere.
Agree on the BLT, but you put mustard on your BLT?![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbarf.gif)

Grits. Some places can do corn grits great and some places have a killer shrimp and grits. I've never had edible normal grits at any place but my home or someone else's.

This is exactly what I did for lunch yesterday. Except no mustard. It overpowers the tomato. My tomatoes are small right now so I had to use two to make the sammich.

Almost any "cajun" dish. Jam, gumbo, any rice and gravy dish.

A lot of people will say gumbo but the gumbo at work is better than any gumbo I've ever had at anyone's home/tailgate/etc IMO.
I do think jambalaya is better at home but I'm admittedly not a jambalaya fan anyway.
