So they heard the public reaction and changed? Shocker
It would be a shocker from Microsoft. I wouldn't hold my breath on this rumor.

If a game has been out a few weeks and Wal Mart already has it at $45 or $50, that usually tells me something.

No out here. The only benefit for me to buy an Xbox One would be for cheap games and to play them with my Xbox friends. Taking away the potential for cheaper games makes it lose a lot of appeal to me. That's for both consoles FWIW and not just the One.
I will just stick to where the games are cheapest.
The only other appeal Xbox will have left if this is true is the TV and entertainment apps but I would benefit more from an HTPC/Steam Box. The Xbox interface will be cooler and more user friendly than what an HTPC can do but at least I would have access to my 150 or so PC games on it as well.
ETA: I think this is a dumb move by them if true and I will not support it.

I'd have to find the article again, but if you adjust the game prices from like 15 years ago or so for inflation, we're actually paying a bit less for games now.
Yeah, I have seen and heard that. It's also probably a reason why developers aren't taking many risks anymore and load up on DLC. I see that on steam the new Payday game is dropping at $30 on release day, so clearly the no used game/lending games policies can have a positive effect for gamers. I still think that consoles will eventually make that move and cheaper games will result.

Watch Dogs will be on Xbox One and PC as well. The Order is PS4 exclusive, though.

you can scoff all you want, but it doens't change the fact that consoles are trending towards being all digital downloads.
when i was hired at my company. if i wanted a special program for my job: Work Order placed. And 2 weeks later some lil intern shite would show up at my office with a binder fulll of CDs, hijack my machine for 30 minutes to install the application.
Now. My request is automated.
If I have the correct credentials and rights, the request is auto-approved and I can download and install the application moments later without anyone's assistance.
ETAB4: "But, but, but...what about people with 512kb connection out in buttfrick, louisiana, how can they download a 20GB game"
too bad. it's 2013. upgrade that shite. your cellphone has a better connection than your home internet. who's fault is that?

They had no other choice, really. Glad to see this.

Not really. I know a lot of us were up in arms about their policy, but years down the road, it will just be the way it is. I'm sure 10 years ago no one would ever dream of paying $60 a year to play games online. Now it's a given by most gamers...........other than those neanderthal PS3'ers, AMIRITE???????
But if a decline in the gaming aftermarket means cheaper new games, I'm all for it. And I have good internet, so I'll be logged in if they want me to.

I really dont care if they do this or not personally

i'm not knighting for xbox.
i'm knighting for digital downloads and if that means losing a few cheap arse customers to push towards a faster more reliable experience for paying customers.
so be it. frick em.
who's paying for the electricity bills for those 300k servers? The cheap arse buying $15 used games from GameStop and playing only the single player missions offline? Nope.
it does sadden me a bit Microsoft didn't have the balls to stick with their stance.
but hell, i see management wavering their stances all the time when pressured in my part of the world, so...

It just seemed to me like you put some effort (not back breaking or anything) into defending the DRM policy. It was the greatest thing since sliced bread and it was genius of Microsoft to do so. Now that the policy might change, you're back to the "eh I have a PC" thing.
Posted on 6/19/13 at 3:18 pm to LewDawg
I don't see stout "crawfishing" on this. He agreed with their policy, now they are "apparently" buckling under the uproar, so now he'll just stick with what he already knows works.

Not making it a big deal. Just my observation.

Yep, a lot of people really just haven't thought enough in-depth about it to realize how good it could be for them. They just see extra restrictions and think it's automatically evil.
Take The Witcher 2, for example:
$20 on steam, and currently on sale for PC at $6
vs.
$28 for a used copy at gamestop, and $40 digital download on the 360

Until it's announced officially I wouldn't take stock into rumors....not saying it won't happen but there is too much crazy noise out there right now.
