How in gods name is that so?

Because we've only gotten one real look at a live action Superman movie since Reeve/Donner. And don't give me that Brandon Routh nonsense, that was basically an homage to Donner's film. Routh may very well have made a solid Supes, but since they decided to make the movie a sequel to the old one, they made the poor guy do an impersonation of Reeve's take on the character.

By my math, that's 30+ years since we've gotten a new look at Superman, and that last look was a silly comic book take on the character. Likewise, when Tim Burton took on Batman in 1989, it had been 20+ years since we'd seen any real live action take on Bats, and the previous take was a silly comic book take on the character.

This take on Superman will be to the Superman character what Tim Burton's was to the Batman character... The only slight difference is that with Supes you've had a handful of non movie takes on the character that have been well received...from Smallville to the various DC Universe cartoons.

Just the simple fact that Hans Zimmer is doing the score says it won't fail. I love every movie he's scored. Throw in the visual effects of Snyder and angle of Nolan, I can'T honestly really remember being this is excited about a movie premiere.

Adam West Batman was mid 60's, so both Batman and Superman were about 33-35 years apart from movies by your standards. Pretty much exactly the same time difference if you take Superman II into count, which was a decent movie in itself, possibly better than the first.

But whether you like it or not, some people got their Superman fix in 2006 when Superman Returns came out, and would have been fine with a sequel to that. But yea now that Snyder and Nolan are on one then it's quickly forgotten.

Plus you had two Superman tv series', one of them being really good and lasting for 10 YEARS!

Not that I complained when I heard there was a new Superman out, but I'm sorry but Batman was in much more need of a reboot. Didn't even think that was in question till I saw your post.

Technically, there was not a "Superman" in Smallville. But it was a fresh take on the story.

While I understand your point, I also see his. I agree with him though. There is no reason to not "reboot" Superman. They did it with Batman and it worked. I like where this is going.

I guess this is where I differ from everybody else on the planet. I'm tired of so many superhero/comic book movies. Though I am dying for A Dame to Kill For.

"O the third spiderman sucked, let's reboot it a few years later. Superman Returns was cheesy, time for a reboot, the reboot will make a billion dollars. This Thor 2 is probably going to suck, hey so and so do you want to direct a fresh take on it in 2018? The Avengers came out, if there isn't a Justice League within the next year, heads will role. X-Men origins wolverine sucked, make a sequel but call The wolverine. Gambit is pretty cool, make a movie. There has got to be a superhero based off of a frog, bear, or rabbit somewhere, I want it made into a movie."

But, people will see it no matter what. The Green Hornet, one of the worst movies ive ever seen, made 230,000,000 worldwide. The "which superhero would you like to have a movie of" thread the other day had people wanting to see movies made of pretty much every comic book character ever made, even multiple female leads. And if you make one, there has got to be a sequel.

But we are talking about Superman. There will always be and should always be, a Superman.

I'm a superhero fan, but they need to stop making superhero movies for a while. They're over saturating and ruining the genre

If they start putting out 3-4 a year, then yes. Ironman 3 and Man of Steel this year, done. Captain America and Thor next year. Again, we have two studios, so they could each do 1 and it would work, IMO.

ETA: By two studios, I mean WB and Marvel. I know Fox and Sony are also studios, so I guess we can expect to get flooded.

ETA2: Spiderman is messed up, as well as X-men, because of the licensing thing. Thats why they keep getting movies/reboots.

At this point there should always be a Superman, Batman or Spiderman movie in development. These three characters are so iconic they deserve the right to be on the big screen.

I will take one of these three of any of the action hero flicks that pop up all time.

Superman has been successful in three live action series, five animated series, plus other appearances in animated series. It's not even close to the drought between the Adam West series and the Tim Burton movie.

They pretty much have been doing this lately.

I'm excited for the movie, not Henry Cavill. I hope I'm wrong but I think they screwed up the casting of Superman again. Maybe Reeve was just too good to expect something similar, but from the previews I just don't get feeling Cavill will prove to be the right choice.

The biggest action sequence for Superman Return was the airplane... we knew something like that was no problem for Superman

Still an awesome scene. I caught it on TV a while back, right before that scene, and just kept watching until it was over. Well done from start to finish.

I'm going to start an epic man of steel gifs thread very soon. I just found a treasure trove of gifs from this movie elsewhere on the internet and will share them with this board. Some of them may have a hint of a spoiler in there but really just things that make you go hmmmm.

I surely hope this is nothing like the last Superman. Superman Returns was bad on it's own but it truly dies for me as soon as Perry White said "he stands for truth, justice, and all that other stuff". Superman is an American hero and should be portrayed as such. I realize they want to go after other markets but i lost my stomach for that movie as soon as he said that.

Not sure whether to really expect a good movie, but I can tell you the long preview I saw before Star Trek last weekend gave me full body goosebumps like nothing I can remember since LOTR.

Trailer is AWESOME.

Later in the day or early tomorrow. I just have to get the sequences of gifs right. I don't want to just throw them up there randomly.
