But whether you like it or not, some people got their Superman fix in 2006 when Superman Returns came out,

I'd agree with that...if in 2006 they had not essentially dug poor ole Christopher Reeve up and had him give Routh acting lessons on how to impersonate his take on Superman. With Bryan Singer either being forced to, or deciding on his own, to go back and do a sequel to Superman II both in terms of story AND feel, we never got a reboot. We got a severely delayed sequel to a movie from 1980.

But yea now that Snyder and Nolan are on one then it's quickly forgotten.

I forgot it as soon as I saw it because I hated the idea that they made a sequel to an old movie rather than rebooting the franchise. It was a mistake on WB's part...just as it would have been had they done the same with Batman when Nolan took over. They clearly realize this, hence what you're getting in a week or so.

Plus you had two Superman tv series', one of them being really good and lasting for 10 YEARS!

I mentioned this, and it's the only real difference. You have at least had some solid, revamped takes on Superman since Reeve (though not the Singer movie) in Smallville and Lois & Clark, plus the even better version done by guys like Bruce Timm in the Superman animated cartoon and the subsequent Justice League shows. but given the fact that Singer gave a Reeve-esque version of Supes in 2006, for my money, we haven't had a truly new take on Superman on the big screen since the originals came out.

Which is why, for me, Superman was in just as much need of a reboot as was Batman in 1989.

Superman Returns was so boring that I'm afraid that they'll head to the other side of the spectrum here.

after he saves the plane its all downhill and becomes nothing more than Supes picking up heavier and heavier objects.

and even then the plane scene was just a rehash of the helicopter crash from the first movie.

I'm going to start an epic man of steel gifs thread very soon. I just found a treasure trove of gifs from this movie elsewhere on the internet and will share them with this board. Some of them may have a hint of a spoiler in there but really just things that make you go hmmmm

You're so crazy/pumped up about this Superman that no matter what they put out there you're going to love it. Already past the point of you being able to have an unbiased opinion of the film. Not that it matters, just saying there's a %100 you're going to love this movie.

If they start putting out 3-4 a year, then yes. Ironman 3 and Man of Steel this year, done. Captain America and Thor next year

They already are, more than 3-4, And have been for a few years now.

This year: Iron Man 3, Superman, Thor II is this year, Kick arse 2, Sin City 2, I don't know what G.I. Joe counts as! Wolverine. I'm probably forgetting one.

So yeah, they need to stop.

About Superman Returns, I think I remember reading or hearing that they actually cut out a large portion of the movie which really affected the plot. Kal Penn basically had no speaking parts in the final cut but I believe the part that ended up on the cutting room floor was basically his role in helping Lex fool Superman into thinking Krypton was still there, thus causing Supes to leave Earth. When Lex is stabbing Superman and says "You took 5 years of my life, I was merely returning the favor," it was supposed to be a reference to Lex tricking Superman into leaving for 5 years.

Add to that the cut Krypton scene and you have to think that the final cut Superman Returns ended up being a completely different movie.

I'm a comic book fanboy first and foremost. I was fricking pumped up for IM3 so much that I went on opening day in IMAX 3D. When I left the theater, I was so very disappointed. Comic book nerds everywhere pretty much despise that film and are pissed that it's still making bank and I share that opinion.

The reason that I'm pumped up and excited for this film is that everything I've seen about it, previews, articles, inside info and whatnot leads me to being this pumped up about it. If it's average/mediocre or just plain bad, you can rest assured that I'll call it for what it is.

ETA: Just posting this for fun. It's for the Batman fans.....

that makes sense as I always thought it was really strange to have a guy like Kal Penn be in the movie and even the opening credits but not have him speak or really do anything at all.

Yeah, I thought it was odd too. Basically, Lex caused Superman to leave Earth for 5 years....which meant he also kept Superman away from his Lois and his son. Would've been a little bit more of a dramatic ending if they kept it in there and Superman finds out that he lost 5 years of his life due to Lex.

After I saw it I started a thread "So. Iron Man 3 sucked"

Is this a joke? Or is it genuinely one of the nerdiest comments of all time?

Superman is tough to make a good movie about because he is so invincible.

Other movies have just had to extend themselves too far to make him weak.

I expect this movie to be great as it will be an origin story, but after that, it is hard to imagine even Nolan coming up with ways to have him be contested without falling into old cliches.

Not really. Supes is not limited to just Metropolis. He's one of the very few global heroes in the comics. Take this banner for example...

Press view image on it or open it in another tab to be able to read it better.

The superman can't be beaten thing is why I'm not a huge fan

As a kid I loved the reeves version but once I got a little older superman really didn't work for me

So I'm not gonna see this in a theatre nor am I excited

I do hope it is a good movie though

Never could sit thru the routh version, at all not more than 10 minutes tops

except for he can.

they have just done a shitty job coming up with foes in the movies.

magic users can f-ck Supes shite up which is why DC/Warner need to get a Captain Marvel/Black Adam flick off the ground.

Sigh, this is such a common misconception, it's sad.

Superman has been beaten before, ever heard of Doomsday? Various uses of Kryptonite? Magic? Villains as strong as him? People also have beat him in a game of mental chess, emotionally and logically. Don't focus on just the physical aspects of it.

If I directed superman,I'd put brainiac in the 2nd one. And in superman the animated series, his power levels are lower. He can die from nuclear blasts and electrocution
