I realize that some of it is Germans, but the article ran today, with his other comments.

Gee took a swipe at Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, one of the most powerful leaders in college athletics, when he answered a question about preserving Ohio State’s financial interests in light of Big Ten revenue-sharing plans.
quote:
The president of Ohio State University said Notre Dame was never invited to join the Big Ten because the university’s priests are not good partners, joking that “those damn Catholics” can’t be trusted
"The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they’re holy hell on the rest of the week,” Gee said to laughter at the Dec. 5 meeting attended by Athletic Director Gene Smith and several other athletic department members, along with professors and students.
“You just can’t trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that
quote:
During the meeting, Gee also said he thought it was a mistake not to include Missouri and Kansas in earlier Big Ten expansion plans. Missouri has since joined the SEC.
“You tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we’re doing,” Gee said, when asked by a questioner how to respond to SEC fans who say the Big Ten can’t count because it now has 14 members.
quote:
The top goal of Big Ten presidents is to “make certain that we have institutions of like-minded academic integrity,” Gee said. “So you won’t see us adding Louisville,” a member of the Big East conference that is also joining the ACC.
After a pause followed by laughter from the audience, Gee added that the Big Ten wouldn’t add the University of Kentucky

That's why I hope the public starts shrugging their shoulders...everything has to be made a big deal...
we are a nation of snitches for sensationalistic ratings...not everything is sensational...not everything non-pc is a big deal.

LOL. Yeah, those bastions of academia at Nebraska and Iowa.
What a fricking joke.

the problem with too many people in today's world is they automatically look for the bigotry and the slander in everything people say.
was it poor taste? To many I'm sure it was.
was it as bad as many are portraying it? Absolutely not, smh at ND

ND hasn't responded (to my knowledge). If you mean the fanbase, then yeah, a lot of people are up in arms over it.
I don't really care. I'm not happy he said it, but I'm certainly not losing sleep over it. My reaction is basically the same as it was after chickening out: "Meh". I will say he is lucky it was "(Christian group) can't be trusted" and not Muslims, Jews, blacks, gays, women, etc.

I literally could not care less what that arse-hat thinks.

If there's any justice in the world, some bowl will match up Notre Lame and the Suckeyes this year. But he's right about one thing--the Big Ten should add KU.

Well of course he was joking, but that's not the kind of stuff you want the president of your university saying

His comments to the SEC were much more spiteful than his Notre Dame comments. Specifically calling out Louisville and Kentucky was the worst, IMO
