I shouldn't have been on ESPN(The Nationally Accredited BleacherReport) so guess that was my fault for reading their "blog" doing my hourly internet browse on Saints news when I noticed that Pat Yasinskas did one of his typical digs at the Saints and our defense. I know this guy is a lazy idiot so what he says doesn't bother me...however it got me thinking about our D and how we would look this year.

This is a what have you done for me lately league.
And with last year and until further notice.....The Saints D deserves whatever shite sandwich someone wants to give us.

I'll believe it when I see it, but until then I think all criticism is fair. Last year's squad was pretty tough to watch.

What gets me is when people assume the defense is gonna suck because it sucked last year. Look at every teams defensive statistics year by year and, with the exception of a few teams consistently in the top 5, almost every team fluctuates considerably from one year to the next.

Yes, this list is accurate. If we're a top 20 defense, we're going to the Super Bowl.

He also only played about 1/3 of the snaps while Ellis played about 75-80% I believe.

Clearly it does bother you

They were just one of the worst defenses in NFL history, and now they're building a "sound" defense?
No.

I'll wait until they prove it.

I think people need to give up on this guy. I feel like he has just about an equal shot as chad jones does of playing a down this year.
ETA:I think our defense overperforms this year. The problem is my expectation meter is bottomed the frick out, so that isn't saying much

I think the key to the defense and perhaps the whole 2013 season lies with the running game, both on offense and defense.
If we can somehow get back to or close to the caliber of our 2009 rushing game (4th in NFL), it will keep our defense off the field and demoralize the other team somewhat.
If our defense can somehow be in the upper half of rushing defense, that will improve our pass rush and in turn our pass defense.
I think how well we stop the run could be a big key to the season.
