Looking to take the wife to New Orleans for the weekend, will be staying on Bourdon Street. I'm looking for a really nice place for us to go eat.

Thanks,

Stella is nice, but a very avant garde type of menu. I'd also recommend August and Bayona for fine dining.

Are you looking for fine dining or a more casual setting?

Stella! And August have been my top two experiences. Stella reminisces more or the nouveau style cuisine, but was the only Louisiana restaurant in Forbes top 100 in the US. Expect to spend 500-600 on the 7 course tasting menu with wine (they also offer a 5 course). The service is pristine though.

You need to let us know what kind of place you are looking for? Do you want to stay around the quarter or do you want other areas?

August
Gautreaux's
Stella (not my fave, but some people love it)
Lilette
Commander's Palace
MiLa
Clancy's
Cochon
Herbsaint
Boucherie
Galatoire's

Varying styles but all very, very good to great, imo.

There are many possibilities in the FQ and out. It would be good to know if you are looking for more of an eclectic restaurant or more traditional New Orleans, price, location, dress....

We can narrow things down with more info.

Does Stella only offer Prix Fixe or can you order ale carte items? My fiance is picky and I can see her wasting some good stuff...

Only Prix Fixe. Tell her to get over it if you're going there. You are getting one of the finest meals of your life, even if its something she typically doesn't like, she'll like it there.

If you don't want to do Prix Fixe, go to August if you're looking for something in Stella!'s range. Le Foret is another option as well.

I like August more than Stella, but I haven't been to Stella since they went Prix Fixe only.

Yeah but correct me if I am wrong, I think you get a choice or two or three with each course. So the gf could cherry pick things she likes.

Revolution, clearly not getting any love. I'll throw it out there. If you're not from here, it's a really nice experience for a high end weekend dinner. Food is very good.

Stella went prix fixe only? That's interesting. Wonder what the primary motivation was behind that? I'm assuming they do a 3 course or a 7 course option. When I went 2 1/2 years ago they had a full menu .. it was good but not worth the price, at least that one time I went.

OP, I'll second Bayona. Iris is a good choice (went again a month ago and it was on point).

You and I would get along fine. That's my plan but she better not leave more than one course on the plate.

Stella went 4 course prix fixe (with 3-4 choices per course) about a year - 18 months ago. Main driver as far as I can tell was to have more consistent kitchen expectation of courses per table and slightly raise check averages. They still do a chef's tasting 7 courser as well.

I'm going to roll out of that place.
