I can assume that a balk that happened because our pitcher didn't come set long enough still happens.
Because he wouldn't have checked the runner at second and slowed everything down?

So he didn't peak over his shoulder at the man on third with only one out but would have studied the man on second with only one out?

Meh, seemed like 3 plays to me. Laird and Edward each laid out for one that they couldn't get to and then there was the miscommunication play between Rhymes and Laird that allowed the ball to drop.
It wasn't like they laid out for a ball over their head. They made a bad decision to lay out and turned singles into triples. They also took a bad angle in right center on the ball between them Saturday and allowed extra bases.

If anything this weekend has shown me Edward needs less playing time.

Did he even get one AB this weekend?

Stevenson back to center and Laird back to right.
There was NOTHING in the video you linked which indicated Mainieri is going to put Stevenson back into the outfield.
On the contrary, he actually explains why he won't make Stevenson the starter by saying, "How much offense are we willing to sacrifice by putting in a better defensive player?"
And this was right after he mentioned Stevenson is only batting ".170 or something."
Stevenson won't be starting in the outfield any time soon.

It was also the first time they've done that this year

Forgot about that play, but even still, I don't think adding Stevenson makes the OF that much better, especially when our bigger problem at the moment is inability to score runs

Is peeking over your shoulder at third with that being the only runner on base with one out the same as turning your head and looking at second at the lead runner with one out and the other team possibly having a play on?

I'll admit I didn't watch the video. Guess I need to see.

I don't remember him coming to bat, but he may have snuck in late. I based my comment on the fact that the infield is locked up, and the only opening is in RF/DH. I think McMullen, Foster, Moore have that taken care of. We'll see Stevenson/Laird change in Center.

My impression was Mainieri is leaning to Rhymes in LF, Stevenson in CF and Laird in RF. Foster made one attempt at a diving catch with the ESPN cameras on and now we need a .170 hitter out there to gain a little in the field.

Huh? Did you watch the whole video?
He said:
#1. That if Stevenson was just hitting 50 points higher, "it wouldn't even be a question."
#2. That he felt he couldn't start Stevenson when Ross & Jones were struggling, but now that isn't the case anymore.
#3. That he is going to be thinking about it hard the "next 24 hours."
#4. That he is leaning toward starting Stevenson again.
Stevenson might not ever start all 3 games in a weekend series again, but I think it's pretty evidence that he will get at least a few more chances in the near future. As well he should.
I'm not saying he won't keep struggling and end up riding the pine the time for the whole playoffs, but it definitely looks like he will get another shot.

The only time Alex Edward left the dugout this past weekend was when the team lined up in front of the dugout for the national anthem.

Youve been lobbying all season long for Jacoby based on the fact that he hit the ball hard and was running into bad luck and also based on his potential.
No, ive been lobbying for JaCoby because casey yocom is his back up.

True, if switching one guy means we get back to scoring 8 runs every day then the decision would be easy....but it doesn't. There are several guys in a funk right now, so the question is does he maximize the defense knowing how important it will be until some of them start to get back on track.

That's a secret, brah. Please edit. Thanks.
