Word is AMD has pushed Zen 3 to Jan 2021, which explains the refresh to fend off Intel until then and allows them to push it back.
And get this:
Zen 3 is 5nm+ full EUV node.
I have my extreme doubts about Zen 3 being 5nm, no roadmpa ever showed that. I would assume they already have been making a ton of zen 3 chip on 7nm to start building up inventory, I mean maybe it happens, but pushing out zen 3 in 5nm just seems so unlikely, even if pushed to Q1. If TSMC can only even start 5nm in Q4, how can they still launch zen 3 in like February and it be on 5nm? Wouldnt there probably be extreme shortages?
No doubt if AMD pulls that off though Intel is pretty much done in the DIY space for the time being. It's going to be a bloodbath of performance/price difference.

Did you put a fresh image of windows on it when you got it?
Posted on 5/30/20 at 2:48 pm to Devious
I’m clueless, but what would that do? Those errors appear to be for specific things, i.e. hardware failures and driver issues. I checked the drivers for some of the common offenders and everything seems up to date. Did chkdsk /r this morning and it spent like 7 minutes checking and repairing shite upon boot up
Just want to try and exhaust other options before I try anything major

just got IQRL error again. most people say its RAM related and suggested trying to isolate the bad one. Do I just pull these sticks out or do I have to do something else?
ETA: Took 2 of the 4 sticks out and have been playing since. No crashes so far

You need to run memtest with all 4 sticks in and then each pair of sticks separately.
Posted on 5/31/20 at 12:21 am to TigerRagAndrew
Played several hours with each pair of sticks. No BSOD
So weird

For lots of those windows bsod, at least for me, it's just easier to pop a new image of windows on there instead of spending hours troubleshooting to maybe fix the problem.
Also, if you're still having the issues after a fresh image, you know it's likely being caused by a hardware issue

played a few more hours last night with all the RAM back in. no issues. so strange
wonder if one of the sticks wasnt fully seated and gave an error

RAM issues are a nightmare. Sometimes it is the mobo slots, so hard to test unless you have a spare mobo.

Anyone surprised at some of the backlash the B550 boards are getting for being "too expensive"? Not sure what some people were expecting after seeing X570 come out with the cheapest boards being just under $200 at launch. They werent going to launch B550 at B450 current pricing obviously, no sub $90 boards (that I've seen). PCI gen4 and the much better built VRMs alone simply cost more money than your comparable B450 board.
Think they are still a great choice compared to X570, the most interesting part will be seeing B550 boards around $200 vs. X570 boards around $200.
I picked up my Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite for $200 (actually $150 since I got $50 off at microcenter bundled with zen 2 purchase ) but want to see how the B550 version stacks up at just $160 but also the $180 B550 Gigabyte Aorus Pro which has a 6 layer PCB (Elite only has 4 layer).

That is a good price. I remember that board was around 350 retail at the time of the 3950X launch.

The X570 Aorus Elite? It was only $199 at launch, I got for $149 at Microcenter because they were taking $50 off mobos and 5700/5700XTs if you bought them with any zen 2 chip in summer last year. So I got the Elite for $149 and a 5700 XT for $349 at launch for both basically

Talked to someone today about the zen 2 refresh chips and what they said made a lot sense. If AMD is releasing a 3600XT, 3800XT and 3900XT, he thinks they will eliminate the 3600 or 3600X and 3700X or 3800X SKU's to have just 2 6-cores, 2 8-cores and 2 12-core options instead of flooding the pricing with 3 6-cores and 3 8-cores.
I could potentially see that. The 3600X SKU literally makes no sense right now selling well above $200 (like $215-$235) when the 3600 can be had for $160-$175 very easily. So either get rid of the 3600 and bring the 3600X down well under $200 and sell the 3600XT for current 3600X price or get rid of the 3600X and keep the 3600 at $160-$175 and the 3600XT goes for the $215-$235 the 3600X is going for now.
On the other side, eliminate the 3700X at $260-$275 currently, bring the 3800X down to around there and sell the 3800XT for $300-$325 or again get rid of the 3800X and keep the 3700X at $260-$275 while the 3800XT is $300-$330.

That's what I initially read, they'd replace them with the refresh.
