Lopez is a perfect big man off the bench. Why would you trade him?
So stupid. Do you want to build a team or keep regurgitating players in hopes of landing some star?

I want to keep Lopez.
...not use up cap space to lose him and upgrade the position this offseason.

Lopez has some good trade value. He's a pretty good starting C and a very good C off the bench. Plus, he has a very team-friendly contract. While I think he could potentially be part of something here, might as well see what we can get for him. If nothing is super enticing, good, we have a solid big on a good contract. If we can fill a void by trading him, pull the trigger.

Ideal starting line-up:
PG: Jrue Holliday
SG: Eric Gordon
SF: Aminu
PF: Anthony Davis
C: Lopez
We get Holliday through trading our pick, little cash, and bench players

Lopez, despite his weaknesses, has been a pleasant surprise to me. Don't think he's a starter, but great off the bench. Frankly, we could use upgrades at starter everywhere other than the 4 (yes, AD) and 2 (EG . . . if healthy).
Currently, I'm with friends having a couple of beers and shots of Tullamore Dew. May I give a more in depth analysis later?

You don't know what you're talking about

lopez=11pts/5rbs in 25 mins with not much versatility and little upside. great attitude but he is completely worthless late in the 4th qtr. check the last pages of HT game threads for that!
or
j smooth 8pts/3rbs in 17 mins. more energy and athleticism, a better shooter and does not miss tons of shots inches from the rim, way better at defending the rim. i don't think he'll demand big money to stay.

Yes, please do.

this isn't really fair. Lopez shoots 54% from the field(#11 among centers) while taking more jump shots than a lot of centers.

Lopez averages 1.6 blocks per game(#9 among centers) playing less minutes than the other guys.

Great re-cap.. I just want the team to win and make the playoffs next season. The team needs some vets to mold the young players and lead the way. They will need to take some chances and that might mean picking up some questionable contracts. I don't see any major free agents coming here, so my ideal off season includes..
1. Getting rid of Gordon. He is way overpaid now and the injuries make him too big of a gamble. I'd trade him to Indy straight up for Granger. Granger has been hurt too, so the trade makes sense for both sides. The Pelicans get a starting quality SF and Granger has an expiring contract (opening up a ton of cap space for 2014).
2. Get a major front court player to mentor Davis and help him grow. Anderson and Davis are not a good pair, they need more of a compliment. I'd trade Vasquez and Anderson for P. Gasol. Gasol is also an expiring contract and solves the Center position.
3. Draft/Sign an impact PG. My hope is that Smart is available, which would make this simple.
4. Sign a replacement for Gordon. I'd like them to take a one year flyer on a guy like K. Martin to mentor Rivers.
5. Pick up the option on Lopez.
We'd end up with a team of..
Smart/Roberts
Martin/Rivers
Granger/Miller
Davis/Smith
Gasol/Lopez
That's a playoff team with alot of youth and over 30 million in cap space for the 2014 season. They could re-sign a couple of the vets (for way lower contracts), add more youth and still get a super star level player. While keeping a core of Davis, Rivers and Smart.. win-win..

I like the OP a lot.
The only thing I disagree with is that I rank C ahead of PG in terms of priority. Though because of availability in the draft, we'll probably end up with a new PG before a new C
But reading that makes me realize we have plenty of different options in the offseason and that really excites me

smith's presence and rate of altering shot vs lopez getting scored on all the time and coming up with two blocks!!! i'll take ole schmitty. your stats are true. i compared before starting my argument. but at some point you have to watch the game and see the real impact. for all we know monty/dell could be setting lopez up to receive offers from other teams. call it flipping him. i thought the same about ego

Gordon hasn't done shite this year. He isn't well liked here. If we can find a team willing to trade for him, I'd sure as hell love to get rid of that shitty contract for his inconsistent play

I can see Vasquez and Smith as long term bench players, I can't see Lopez doing that. Despite his defensive flaws his offensive skills will probably get him more than $5 million on his next deal.

It's too early to say this, imo....We don't necessarily know what Davis will be.

I can't get on board for that...Gasol will be turning 33, has significant injury concerns, and is having the worst season of his career.
He's not worth Vasquez and Anderson.

...and where the hell do we go from there. The whole team retires as Davis enters his prime.
