I find that the more I share, the more tips I get. But I'm just the run of the mill recreational guy and not the make $ type.

I'm pretty lenient on giving them out. I don't pass out GPS coordinates, but ill tell them, "around middle fork" or "south end of the Spillway", "old river in the trees" or something like that.

All three are large areas.

Depends on who I am talking to.

I will NEVER give out specific spots on the net, too many people looking. However I am fortunate that I have a large network of friends I fish with in Venice and we keep each other on the fish.

If I trust you not to be a dick about it, I'll bring you fishing with me to my spots. I'm not going to describe how to get there. I'm not going to draw you a map. I'm not going to mark it on a map. A person is going to have to learn my spots from fishing with me.

I wonder how many asses carry a gps on them....

Everyone knows when and where they are hot. It's regional news with hot spots posted in the paper, and broadcast on radio.

For saltwater, I have a charter fishing buddy that puts me on fish. I won't tell anyone the spots he gives me. If it's my spot, and you're a good friend, I'll tell you. I don't get to go often enough to where it matters. Now I've got an unmarked reef in Timbalier Bay that I have GPS coordinates to that I have never given to anyone. I've never seen another boat on it and I would like to keep it that way.

I always try to help people when asked. I am fortunate I get to fish pretty often so I stay up with the fish patterns and I enjoy other people success especially kids

I hunt public land and am restricted to a kayak or flat boat for fishing so I guard my spots pretty closely. Definitely don't put them online other than saying general areas. I have 4 guys in the area that I share information with, and they do the same with me. Most of the time they are with me when I go anyway.

I figure that someone has been hunting or fishing that hole for a few hundred years and it isn't in any form or fashion, "my spot".

I'm pretty casual at fishing though and don't take it very serious.

I don't consider anything "my spot" but I sure as hell am not going to broadcast it.

And to the OP: As far as asking for spots, I'll ask how someone did, usually if they want to divulge locations they will, otherwise I don't press them on the matter.

they had some good fish in that area in January. We had caught em right down the bayou from there in practice. just didnt work out for us on tourney day.. seems to be the trend

eta: I think sharing info is all relative to what the persons intentions are that will be fishing your spot. If they tourney fish, they wont be keeping "your" fish... they will fish it and move on. if they are fishing for meat, then they will be keeping your fish and there will be less fish for you to enjoy catching.
