I'd love to start an indoor gun range. Do any of you know what start up costs would be? Im sure the liability insurance would be a killer.

Wickowick has the right idea -- but even that pile is probably way too small.
Meeting OSHA & EPA regs alone might add one or two hundred thousand to the budget.
Add in the cost of the building (designed to contain the bullets), plus salaries, insurance, debt service and utilities -- got to have a lot of customers to break even every month.

The shooters have to have ammo to go shoot, unless that are like Chad with his blanks...

I seriously looked into it - in the neighborhood of $3 mil for a modest one, plus 2+ years full time work before it opens.
HVACs, lead abatement, bullet traps, noise abatement, land, etc are your major costs.
Plus the amount of permits is ridiculous. Federal, state, local, plus city police, parish police, and state police.

Outdoor has to be MUCH cheaper, just put a cover over the shooting area, and gives the ability for rifle shooting is you have the space...

At least, AT LEAST a million dollars.

When I got my CCW renewed it was done by Alan Easterly who is trying to get Geaux Shooting open in Prairieville (I wish him luck, but am worried he is fighting a loosing battle) I asked him about starting an outdoor range and if I remember correctly he said something to the effect that it would be very hard if not impossible to get the permits for an outdoor range now with EPA standards etc?
In any case I think this is the type of business that you let someone else start, pump millions into and then buy it from them when they give up for pennies on the dollar. Look at precession in BR, How many times has it changed hands before someone was finally able to make it successful?

My first guess would be, a lot. In AL, they opened Hoover Tactical Firearms in an old Bruno's grocery store and have done very well. I live near there. They have a guns & accessories store, shooting range, cafe and teach a lot of classes. Really nice place & good people.

The OB should make a kick starter page for this.

Some investment capital guys I know just opened one in Tampa. He says that after expenses his profit margin exceeds 40%. The money is made on ammo, targets, memberships, rentals, shooting time, gun sales and safety classes. The key is building big, partially for the shock and awe factor but also to deter local competition. His build cost nearly $2M...
