While he may not have superstar-caliber tools, he plays the game with an aggressive intensity that puts pressure on the other team's defense. His work ethic compensates for any shortcoming he demonstrates in his skill level.
quote:
That's not to say that the 6-foot-1, 200-pound, right-handed-hitting Mahtook is short on tools. In fact, he has Major League style ability that will serve him well when his development time is complete. He will have to scrape, scratch and work hard to bring out the best in his game
quote:
When I met with Mahtook during the 2011 season of the Arizona Fall League, he spoke passionately of his love for Louisiana State University, his alma mater.
quote:
No individual tool dominates Mahtook's game. He does a little bit of everything, and he does it well. Perhaps his best skill is his speed. He is fast enough and has strong enough instincts to force defenses into making mistakes

Sounds like should've stayed at LSU. My guess is he falls into obscurity. That seems like it happens so much to college guys. If you aren't making noise out of high school, it seems like you're doomed. Hoping Mikie can make it though!

Nice. Just a matter of time.

Yeah, college guys never succeed in MLB.

He will not hesitate to challenge the throwing accuracy of outfielders, as he heads for an extra base every time it's feasible. I place a high value on his natural ability, intelligence and instincts for running the bases. He's a scrapper.
that's what i remember. pulling for him.

As an old timer I can tell you that was said of a guy named Johnny Callison.

Didn't see him in Top 100 prospects this time around, little disappointing. Hopefully he bounces back this year.

King , I agree with you, he probably will never stick at the MLB level. It's so hard to break through. Some much better than he ,have never gotten there...good luck MM

Most do. But we can pull for him anyway.

My God people. I just said he will probably not make it, as do a lot of guys. I never bashed the kid and said I was hoping for the best. Not every athlete from LSU can make it to the next level. Be a tad bit realistic. I would love to see him make it but with all the high schoolers and Cuban guys, it will be tough.

I remember when Ryan Theriot was the only guy in LSU's entire lineup batting under .300. He seems to be doing OK for himself. On the other hand, I thought Cresse was going to be a power hitter in the majors within two years. Not that this has much to do with Mahtook, but my point is none of us have a clue how his pro career will pan out.
