Well the show has already been renewed for a 3rd season. HBO even upped the episode order from 10 to 12.

HBO gave "bored to death" 3 seasons even though it didnt do very well. I loved that show and I know if HBO believes in a show they'll give it time. Girls is probably doing well enough to where it will keep getting renewed, but I doubt the critical and commercial success are on par, but don't doubt for a second that the fear of seeing Lena Dunham nude hasn't kept a sizeable audience away.

If the New York Times got to create a human being from scratch, it would be Lena Dunham.

Intelligence not put to use, privileged upbringing combined with unbridled liberalism, faux complexity allowing critics to justify their worthless, unproductive existence...

A week late but another article with an interesting breakdown of the random episode last week with Patrick Wilson (seems like a direct reply to many of the posts in this thread):

I am sick of this show priding itself on it being "the realistic view of 20 something year old women living in New York"

I don't know if this will bump this thread or not (or if it is anchored).. but I am troubled by Girls. I am on Episode 5 of Season 2, and I fully enjoy the show. I find it entertaining and interesting.

That said, I do not at ALL agree with people who called it a more realistic Sex and the City. First of all, the women on Sex and the City are wayyyyyyyyy more relatable to me. They react in situations the way that real people would react. The characters in Girls don't do that at all. I don't know who all these fricks are that relate with them, but HOW?!

How can you relate with girls who treat their best friend like absolute shite.. who can just phase guys in and out of their life never looking back.. who can have something like your best friend moving out TWICE (Elijah and Marnie) and you are still friends with them (well, at least Marnie)??

That's not at all realistic. That's weird hipster crazy people's normal maybe, but not mine.

I think that Lena is very talented. I watched Tiny Furniture and loved it. It's amazing to me that she writes this show and stars in it, and she does a swell job of making her character so hateable.. which I think she does purposely.
I can even relate with some of the awkward sex scenes they've had.. small shite.

But on a larger scale, I find the show to be more of some freakshow's reality rather than the reality of a normal 20-something.

this show will forever have pissed me off because it was picked up at the expense of how to make it in america.

The only true moment of the whole episode was when this guy who she should be thanking her lucky stars even spoke to her opened up to her about some awkward encounter he had as a kid when he let some other guy jerk him off and she totally disregarded him and blew it off as insignificant compared to her own dumbass ramblings then lashed out at him for not sharing with her.

This is the episode that would be next for me if I continued watching, and I don't know that I can keep going.

Hannah's self-centeredness bothers me. I find it repulsive and annoying. It's like she's a child with some fictional idea of what it means to be a "grown up" so she mimics what she thinks they do.

For example, the party she had.. She invited her best friend (Marnie) and also Marnie's ex and his new girlfriend. When the ex's girlfriend started a fight with Marnie, Hannah wouldn't even take up for her own best friend.

And then when her Marnie left, she brushed it off and wanted everyone to continue chatting and having a good time.
It was one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever seen. What kind of person behaves that way? I literally know nobody who would act as childish and weird as Hannah does.

That said, I can't hate on Lena. I think she can be talented (albeit quirky) and she clearly wants the audience to hate Hannah.

How to make it in America told these exact same stories in a way that was so much better.

It's a smart comedy, that may be the problem.

You're about to watch the worst episode of any series I've ever watched if it's the episode I'm thinking about, but keep going. It's only 25 minutes. Last half of season 2 has more Adam, and Adam is awesome.

I'm calling bullshite on it being especially smart.

I kept watching every week during season 2, but I couldn't necessarily tell you why.

Shosh is only character on the whole show who isn't a complete lost cause.

ETA: The "Boys" episode where they go to Staten Island with the dog is my favorite episode of the series, and I think its coming up after where LL is if I remember correctly. Just plug through, the episodes are only 23 minutes long.

I fricking loathe the show. My wife likes it. None of the characters are likable. The main fat girl is disgusting and for some reason has to write herself naked in every goddamn episode. We get it. You want the audience to feel uncomfortable about how comfortable you are with your body. We are not uncomfortable. We are disgusted, you fat frick.

adam and shosh were the 2 characters that may not have been the worst people in the world, and dunham ensured that by the end of season 2, we hated them both. you may not have gotten there yet, but it's coming
