Loud Obnoxious People in Restaurants

We were dining at a large upscale Italian chain in a city not known for it's culinary treats. The place is in an area filled with professional and medical buildings so the clientele was well dressed and sedate. Even though the place was packed there was one table of 6 women, I doubt that they were Republicans, who were shouting and laughing so loudly you could hear them above all the other diners from across the restaurant.
I asked the waiter if we could be reseated since we were close, but he said there were no empty tables and there was a line in the foyer of people waiting to get in. He said other people had complained but it was company policy not to do anything but serve them quickly and hope they leave,"we have learned that if you ask them to hold it down that just makes them louder".
It's funny, I've seen restaurants ask people with crying babies and children to leave, but the grownups we are stuck with.

That normally wouldn't bother me, except at the type of restaurant you described. Would really piss me off and I'd have trouble biting my tongue.

It was Olive Garden wasn't it?

It happens from time to time and it sucks that there really isn't a correct answer for how to deal with it.
I've only had one instance where it was really bad with crazy loud people, but I have had several times where it is one loud woman at a table who gets on my nerves. Not sure how to describe it, but they are loud and their voices just seem to have a different pitch, so all I hear is this one damn woman over the buzz of the rest of the place.
And yes, the kind of restaurant really determines how mad I would be. I have a friend who was with a large group who got asked to leave Stella one night. He freely admits that they deserved it.
That's just no place for that kind of crap.

I said upscale and Italian, not OG.

I like my words to convey an accurate depiction of events, in spite of the ridiculous sensibilities of some people. Maybe they all had AFSCME or AFL-CIO lapel pins on.

So you were disturbed by black people at Olive Garden? Yeah, that's just the atmosphere you pay for
But seriously, that's the worst. Sorry you had that experience.

You should have walked over and told the whole table you had a gun, and that if they didn't STFU, somebody wasn't gonna make it for coffee and dessert.

A loud anything, whether it's a child or adult, will ruin my meal pretty much every time. It's most of the reason I haven't been to the new Galatoire's yet.

Seriously, that is one reason I don't go to Pappasito's (Houston) more often. The food is great but you can't hear yourself think in there.

He should have just said something, probably weren't going to be huge tippers anyways.

Of course you move on, but for the next few weeks I'll be wary and scouting out things like that before being seated.
Funny, I carry this device on my keychain called TV-B-Gone. It looks like a regular alarm fob, but if you are stuck someplace like a waiting room, where you are the only person and there is a TV blaring on the Price is Right, you activate it, it scans though the brands till it hits the off button on the one you are being annoyed by, and turns it off. Now, if they only made a people version.
Because of my work and my age, I seem to end up in a lot of waiting rooms. No harm, no foul.
