+1
Have the new OL person, coach TE as well

Miles and Stud are the problems.

You show me an LSU fan who doesn't appreciate Krag and I'll show you an LSU fan that doesn't read much about recruiting. Fitting, considering Rettig starts his LSU career today.
I thought I read that Rettig was fired up about Krag and he is the reason Rettig chose LSU.

Yeah, but I wouldn't rule out Stud accepting a role as OL and asst. head coach. Regardless of Krag's QB coaching ability, he has done a good job recruiting the kid's in this class, and I think it was necessary to keep him on staff to ensure they enroll.
The problem with Mettenberger started out with our passing game coordination and protection. Issues with the backs blocking, the injuries on the line, and the simplicity of our route designs. We didn't run a crossing pattern until midseason, the pass across the field to seal the Auburn win really showed how poorly our secondary routes were designed. Mett wasn't given any level of trust, and we were handicapped.
As the season played out, I gained an appreciation for what our play callers were dealing with. It became apparent to me that Mett only throws one way, one trajectory. Any time a throw required some air under the ball (touch), it was overthrown. It's hard to involve the RB's and TE's without putting touch on the passes. Over the LB's, under the safeties, especially when the safeties are in the box.
I'm not saying there were no exceptions to the rule during the course of the season. But, if you stop to think about it and/or review the games, I think you'll find Mett had very few completions where he had to throw anything outside of his normal fastball.
Subsequently, he gets many of them swatted at the line, or overthrows. If we just had any semblance of mobility and touch from the QB position, we could keep the defenses honest, not only in basic coverage, but also when they blitz, by throwing typical RB screens. The screen we use most often requires ( wait for it) a sidearm bullet from Mett, instead of your typical over the top to the outside.
The slants we prefer are also not aided by the fact that we miss having a physical receiver who can shield the defender better. I sincerely hope we give our young QB's a chance to see significant playing time this year, so that we have a legitimate chance at a championship the following season, when we lose 8-10 juniors to the draft again.

Both Lee and JJ improved significantly last year (JJ was doing tremendous up until UGA and Bama. Same with Lee). Mett improved significantly as the season went on and competition improved.
Id say Krags is doing his job.

Did you not see how well JL did last year? Up until the Bama game, he was the best QB in the SEC.

Not that this is indicative of anything, but has that ever happened before? Not just here, but at any school? My initial impulse is to call it absurd.

Why does Ensminger deserve an admin role?
Posted on 1/15/13 at 11:15 pm to higgsBoson
Our quarterback production has been off the charts with Krags.

The short answer is that he is on the staff and Miles is very loyal. Whether or not you think that he is deserving doesn't matter.

So we should recklessly spend athletic dept (or TAF) money?

Mett, lee, jj, were all coached by sub par coaches before krag got a hold of them.
mett was coached by mark richt for a year and has had krags every year he's been at LSU

disagree here. as bad as Jordan was for that stretch during the middle of 2010, after the bye (beginning with the Bama upset) he was good for about 180 yds/ game and 1 TD/ game, which was always pretty much his ceiling.
and Lee had improved much from 09 to 10, just didn't get enough snaps to show it.
Kragz being on board no doubt helped, particularly with the streamlining of the offense/ better playcalling. but I think both guys were pretty close to who they were at the end of 2010.

How do we know this?

The argument against Kragthorpe is that if we hire another OC, we will also need to replace the OL coach. That means someone else has to go.
Bingo. Alot of people dont understand that you can only have 1 HC and 9 fulltime assistant coaches. That is the reason why so many OC's also coach the QB's.

No if anyone goes it's Stud. But don't we have room for one more caoch since Stud is doing a dual role?

Kragthorpe is a good guy and and a good coach. He is not the issue at LSU.

You are having a different conversation than the rest of us. You'd do better to focus on the topic at hand.

No. We are at the limit of coaches. If we drop one coach, we can hire one coach. Most coaching staffs don't have a dedicated QB coach nor a dedicated ST coach.
We have that luxury because we have a DC who coaches the linebackers and an OC that coaches the OL. Personally, I think Chavis does a tremendous job of managing the two responsibilities. But, I think Studrawa does not...and I think he's an average OL coach anyway.

When we did have problems, it was due to not protecting him in the pocket.
How about the constant overthrows and batted balls?
He can not and will not move his feet in the pocket.
Unless they hire Drew Brees, Brady, or Manning to come teach him how to move, he will still be right where he is now, barely mediocre.
