test drove both yesterday and curious what everyones thoughts are?

pilot had more room but its also a little boxier and old school looking. another thing is they are completely redesigning it for 2014. The explorer has the better entertainment system and Nav but is also more $$$.

Fully loaded Pilot was 38k and explorer was 42k.

thoughts?

Pilot will definitely have a better resale value. Who needs a navigation when you have google maps? I'd get the Pilot.

just traded my wife's 2011 explorer. it left her in baton rouge because of a fan motor relay. she never got over it.

I have an Explorer and love it. Rides nice and feels solid. Is sticker price 42? Because ford sells volume you can get a nice discount. I have not dealt with honda in years, but my experience with them is they are not willing to deal, or they feel their car is superior so they stick near the sticker price.

My wife has been driving a Pilot for about 6 years now. This was the first one she had for about a year:

A wreck in the oncoming lane and a car came across the median and she t-boned it at 65mph and rolled it a few times. after she walked away from that with only a bruised knee, that's all she will drive now.

Besides safety, the interior feels like an old accord I drove and feels great.

I drove an old Explorer for a while. I liked it mainly b/c I used it like it was supposed to be used with outdoor activities. I'm sure the Pilot may be OK for that, but the Explorer felt more suitable.

The wife drives an Expedition that is 3 yrs old and has 36k miles on it. I went a couple months ago to see about trading it in for a new 4x4 expedition( we moved to Colorado). The dealer here offered me $21k for it. I paid $47k for it new. I'll never buy another one. Resell is poop on em.

Get the Pilot.

For that kind of money you can get a Lexus RX350.

Both are great since they took the Explorer off of a frame. Can't go wrong.

Those stickers are ridiculous. You could get a CPO MDX for much less.

my wife has had a 2010 and 2012 pilot. they restyled it a little in 2012, so i would not expect a change in a few years. we have had no touble with either one, very low maintenance. The only reason we bought a new one is they offered us a really good trade in on the 2012. i would buy another one.

2013 Jeep Cherokee, best ride, best value , best resale...and if you want it to run, try the Hemi verson and hurt some Porches.

Let reliability be the deciding factor if you're torn. Consumer Reports rates the Pilot as much more reliable.

I don't understand why people spend this much on a vehicle. $40K for a Ford or Honda is ridiculous.

I was just in the market for a SUV and we decided to go with a used 2011 V6 Kia Sorrento. I just couldn't bring myself to spending what most spend on a car. Yeah, I'm rolling the dice reliability wise with the Kia, but I know for sure I won't spend anywhere close to $20K repairing the vehicle while I own it.
