Come on man. I don't necessarily think we have to trash a pro style system but there's so much more that can be done with it. There's no creativity except a minor thing like the pass to Dickson during the game. The OL is terrible with their technique and need a full time OL coach. The OL has the size, strength and speed. They deserve better coaching. It is time to shake things up and allow a real OC to produce. By the way, I'm a huge CLM fan! LSU is stacked, need to take the next step towards domination!!

Assessing who or what is to blame for the last few years on offense isn't easy...though for many on here the answers seem simplistic.

I don't particularly like watching a pro style offense in CFB...but I AM sold that it is a scheme that can be the most consistent winner if you can recruit the horses to maintain it...which CLM obviously can.

What my true take is, and it's just going to sound like an excuse to a lot of people, is we have been a victim of not having a good QB. In any offense you have to have a good trigger man to be effective.

I like to use Texas and Alabama to illustrate my point. Both of those teams have elite recruiting classes every year and both have similar offensive philosphies...though Bama is more run oriented and TX more pass heavy. But point being, with pretty much equal talent at every position, Bama has gotten lucky the last few years at QB with Mclroy and McCarron, and Texas hasn't had good QB play since Colt McCoy. What else would account for such a difference in W/L records with no talent disparity to speak of?

Now lots of people will say that it isn't "luck" that Bama has recruited good QB's and TX hasn't. Just as they will tell you that it is the fault of CLM and staff that we have struggled at QB.

But any coach will tell you that projecting a QB is the hardest position to get right. The guys that TX recruited were highly rated and wanted by everyone...but they didn't pan out.

Ultimately it is the responsibilty of the coach to evaluate and choose the right guy...CLM and Mack Brown have failed at their last few tries...it happens.

So if you want to blame CLM for not being good at choosing or developing a QB, you'll get no argument from me, but I do believe it is a hit or miss deal and that eventually the odds will swing our way and it will be Bama that has a little less fortune.

Thank you Cauble for having the BALLS to say what needs to be said. The BR media has been nothing but a "slob the knob of Miles" group for too long. No one questions Mr Quirky about anything and when they do (Bobby Hebert), they are marginalized and smeared for it.

Injuries on the O-Line were a big factor in the Offense's problems in the last few games.

People who know football have identified this factor already, so, I'm not informing them of anything new.

Eh, Doucet is critical but he's an a-hole so he's often left to apologize so his credentials aren't revoked.

Cauble provides a very reasonable and level-headed argument for our woeful offensive production.

IMO it's time for the Studthorpe OC experiment to end. Put Stud back at O-line coach (when that was his sole duty we had a phenomenal o-line that mauled opposing d-lines) and hire on a real OC. I know Les likes to have his hand in the offense but we need to improve the playcalling.

It's not all on the qb, the offensive system has to help him develop. LSU, in Les Miles land, runs apro style offense. In actuality, they run a junior high offense. You just simply can not use formations and personnel to tell the defense exactly what play you are going to run. Michael Ford- outside runner, Spencer Ware- inside runner, etc. There was a point in the season this year that LSU was run into a 9 man box, run into a 9 man box, max protect with 8 blockers and send 2 receivers out against a 6 man zone. Peyton Manning would have trouble completing passes against those odds.

I don't disagree with you on the QB portion of our situation at all. Mett's has shown flashes of what he can do. The OL injuries didn't help and Mett's lack of mobility doesn't either. Like I said, I have a high opinion of Miles. I think he's great. I do think we need to do more than just execute. Execution is about coaching as well but we need to throw in some wrinkles. Respect your opinion a lot. Last post was solid.

Other coaches & fans have been thinking it for years, just didn't say it. It was the joke of the SEC (MILES) everyone knows they have a chance to beat LSU even as athletic as they are because of one constant....BAD COACHING by the head guy.
People outside our fan base are sick of us not performing to our potential.

This must be a recent affliction because he radically changed his offensive approach at LSU once already.

Thanks and ditto to you. A reasonable man can be hard to find on this board!

You're absolutely right of course, a HC is ultimately responsible for his teams execution. If your team executes poorly often enough you will be out of a job. Fortunately for us, CLM's teams have executed well enough for us to win a ton of games in his tenure.

I would LOVE to see a few more wrinkles in our offense and we sure seemed to have more of them in the past....not sure where they went....hopefully they will start working their way back into the play calling.

At the end of the day, we were one 1st down or one stop from beating Bama. We were one 1st down or one stop from beating Clemson. And we were just a play or two, or one or two less injuries from beating Fla. So I see no need to panic, we are still a top tier team and will continue to have top tier seasons.

sports2 has always called a spade a spade, I think he sort of backed off after he came out and said he can personally guarantee that Miles was calling for the spike at the end of the Ole Miss game with 1 second left and Les continued to lie his weasel arse off
