How much payroll taxes have you and/or significant other paid this year?

I don't know why I do this to myself, but around this time of the year, I get sick looking at me and my wife's paycheck stubs.
In payroll taxes, combined we have paid $27076.82 this year.
Mind boggling, at least for me. And it's only going to increase this time next year.

are you talking about FICA and medicare alone or you talking about all deductions for taxes?
FICA - $2,578.55
Medicare - $890.40
and that is just for me.
without the tax holiday i would have paid another $1,227.88 to FICA so far this year
my state and federal i have paid about $2,500.

If we all had to write a check to the government every month for taxes instead of taking it out of our check there would be a revolt...most people do not even look at the difference between gross and net pay....it is really sickening, especially when you look at all the waste

Just looking at both of my year to dates it will be close to $8500
Hopefully I will be getting around $2500 back since I withheld the maximum

For just myself:
Federal Income - $5,953.20
Social Security - $1,938.78
Medicare - $669.34
Total - $8,561.32
One paycheck remaining so you can add ~$370 to the total.

Yea isnt it great buying Uncle Sam a new car every year? Or a nice house every 10 years?
Of course they want us to pay more now because its certainly not a spending problem
I never understand the "fair share" BS.
Why is it that the ultra rich buy uncle sam a house or 3 every year, the middle class buys him a car and then the lower class doesnt even have to buy him a hamburger and some make money paying nothing at all.
But its the few rich that needs to pay more and not the massive amount of lower class paying just a tiny bit..

Just by reviewing my budget spreadsheet, I was able to live off just a little more than the amount my taxes add up to. Rent, utilities, gas, grocery, and expenses are only between $2k-3k more than my tax payments. I live well within my means, and I drop as much of my income into savings and retirement so I can avoid the spending craze that can overtake an individual.

Well, this almost means nothing since we didn't get a number.
I will say in school I did hardly jack shite and my baseline expenses for a year were around $20,000. It was pretty much the floor without killing oneself due to extreme boredom.
Looks like I've added maybe 10k in expenses working now. With another 7k or more in debt payments. After tax savings rate is almost 25%, but the aforementioned debt payments keep that from being higher.

I posted mine above that last post. I live very cheaply with some help of splitting rent and groceries. As for entertainment, thankfully living in a college town I have access to sporting events and what not to get outside of my regular routine.

Ah, so about 11,000 in living expenses?
Good lord. My rent alone is 10,000. I live alone in New Orleans though. With 3 roommates my last year of school my rent was $4,500.
Becoming an adult (at 26) was an immediate $5,000 hit.

I'm one year removed from school and I managed to get a job nearby where I graduated. So I managed to extend my stay at my residence of the last year of school which is very cheap between 4 people. And then it helps living with them because I still maintain a mindset like I am in college and without money, so I rarely spend money on anything outside of bills.

$12,731 as of today's check stub.

Combined, with all tax deductions (FICA/SS/Med/LA), it'll be about $25k.
I usually pay another $800-1200 in March when I file, but hopefully this year I can get a little back ( first year with baby, no adjustments yet).

Fed Income: $2,227.65
Medicare: $251.64
SSI: $728.89
Total: $3,208.18
One more check so add $380 to that total. Roughly $3,600 in taxes.

Over double this number. It sucks. That's for everything including the employer side. It's over $60k total.
