not sec caliber????????

Their schedule was a joke Stanford lost to Washington a team we destroyed. Oregon was just grossly overrated did not beat any top ten teams.
They lucked out against a weak Pitt team Pitt dominated them and missed a chip shot FG in overtime.
LSU would destroy them ! Vandy would give them all they can handle!
Bama will annihilate them! What tough teams did they beat?
Michigan ? They are a joke!

Pitt was up20-3 and spent the rest of the game trying to give it away, with some help from a phantom PI penalty

BC lost to Army.

Never said that they won't get destroyed.
never said they have a tough schedule.
Just stating that they have some quality wins.

I don't think Barkley is playing. No way USC beats ND without their QB.

I still believe Stanford scored the go ahead touchdown.
How could Stanford score the go ahead touchdown on a play that would have tied the game?

No kidding - the misinformation on this site is scary. Stanford should have lost to ND in regulation when the refs gave Stanford a fumble when ND was in the red zone and about to put it away.

Same thing I thought. Bunch of idiots in this thread. Not saying that they are a great team but if they go undefeated with the schedule that they played, they deserve a shot.
Not bad for a team with a freshman qb who was a "year away"

That Michigan team they beat scored less and gained less yds vs ND than Bama.
That OU team they beat destroyed Texas who humiliated Ole Miss at home. Also, they beat that OU team worse than the last weeks #1 did.
That Stanford team they beat just beat # 2 last week.
I'm sure that Notre Dame would match up with or even be better than SEC teams.
But carry on the irrational Notre Dame hate.
And before you say look what LSU did to them in Sugar Bowl, remember it wasn't Kelly's team or staff then.

Haha. Their schedule is not SEC caliber? Are you kidding? Look I'm an LSU fan but even I can see that North Texas, Idaho, and Towson <<<<<< Navy, Pitt, and Wake Forest
Also the SEC in general has just an embarrassing OOC - western carolina, wofford, georgia southern, and jacksonville state - and that was just this weekend!

It's nice to see that the rational fans from the SEC have arrived tonight.

this thread started over on the tiger rant and then once it was moved here it became more rational.

They haven't played one legit offense besides OU. Notre Dame offensive opponent ranks out of 120: 12, 58, 65, 67, 70, 75, 85, 94, 98 & 117. AWFUL offenses. Defense = overrated.
Posted on 11/18/12 at 8:44 pm to KnoxvilleBerryTiger
ND's schedule is tougher than any SEC could ever be. Take off the SEC shades and you'll see that.

you seem like a very smart guy so these numbers should be easy for you to understand...but when we control for opponents offensive production, ND has the best defense in the country.

Breaking out sabermetrics that demonstrate ND has played pathetic offenses doesn't help your argument

they don't play any lower divsion teams ever, neither Sun Belt or MAC. The only reason Navy is on there, is due to some WWII arrangement. Imagine if that was a DIV I team instead of Towson St. the way we played that day.
I find this to be a silly argument. If you are a top team, you aren't losing to Mac teams or SunBelt teams either. Who gives a shite what your bad opponents are ranked?
No legit top 10 team in the country plays more than 5 games in a year that they could realistically lose. The caliber of those opponents is all that really matters.

I agree completely with this and am surprised you don't hear it more often.
The top end strength of a schedule makes it harder to navigate undefeated than numerous 5-7 teams.
Not to say those type teams don't pull upsets but they are pretty rare whereas it's very common for #1 and #2 teams to lose to other Top 15 teams. .
ND's schedule is certainly respectable but it's because Oklahoma, Michigan, Stanford, USC etc are pretty good teams NOT because playing Wake Forest should challenge a title contender any more than playing a MAC or SUN BELT team.
That Wake Forest may not finish in the upper half of either of those leagues, while somewhat beside the point, still emphasizes how easily the "more BCS opponents" argument can be slanted in talking points.
