Anybody who wishes for another coach best be careful what they wish for. There are many examples in sports, and certainly in the history of LSU football, of new coaches bringing a program down instead of elevating it. We're doing fine with Les.
You think AU wish they had tubbs? How about nebraska, zolich is looking pretty good to them he's in the top 25 and nebraska, not so much. tenn probably wishes they had fulmer back. Ole miss and david cutcliff?

You want DANA over Miles...seriously? That dude drops key games every year!
We need an aggressive OC....that's it!

Dinardo started the process to give the program a facelift. Saban built on it and Miles continue to build on it.

i agree saban is the best but he has GROWN to that level. he was not the best when he was here or michigan state. the nfl experiment helped him a lot. will miles progress to that level? who knows.
as far as the LSU program itself allowing a coach to be successful i completely disagree. we have had some pretty bad HC's and so has EVERY top program. review tejas, tennessee, auburn, frickin' alabama, notre dame, michigan, usc, florida, etc, etc. all of those top programs have only prospered when they've had great HC's. no one program sells itself because there are so many other programs that are as good or almost as good. when we were getting slammed under hallman, many of the better recruits in louisiana were heading to other schools.

ok youngster, the world did not start when you were born. i mean, i'm sure all would join me in welcoming you to the world (if we had known it) and all but LSU had some damn good and some great teams before the '90s abortion. we had one NC and could claim 2 more if we were like bama; with our 2 being much more significant. and we challeged for the SEC pretty much every year even against the bear. yea, the bear won it and that got our HC fired so the fan base had title expectations back then also. nevertheless, i'm happy you were born; ask your grandpa about the world before that date.

Thank you. LSU is fine with him at the helm

Yes, and the LSU players like playing for Les. Why not? He uses alot of players regardless of class and keeps them fresh. So incoming recruits KNOW they will have a chance to see the field in a real game. He is a fine coach.

quote:so you think miles can go to any of these schools & win 80% of his games in 7 years? a lot of coaches could have come here & won a NC or 2 after saban imo.
TCU
West Virginia
Boise State
Florida State
University of South Florida
South Carolina
Petrino
in '08 the list was even longer. the fact is that when this coach was being screamed for they were having a good year. less miles is a better coach than any one of these guys and wins a lot more consistently. no flash in the pan with our coach.

Miles is the best coach in LSU history (and better than Saban)

Miles has just beaten him 2 out of 3. Doesn't seem like a very big gap to me.

Great point.
Les is such a good coach in so many ways - perhaps all but one. He just needs to realize that it's ok to put the heel-to-the-steel on offense when you've got a great D and STs. It's ok Les to have a functioning O. That's a good thing.

the mere fact that Les Miles wins more games at LSU than some other coach at, for example, USF or Boise State is really irrelevant and doesn't necessarily prove that Miles is the "better" coach. LSU obviously has a much more fertile recruiting base, vastly better facilities, and a more storied traditional that either USF or Boise State.
That's all nice and everything, but the thing is...LM is 18-4 in the SEC since 2010 which happens to top the SEC in wins.
The SEC...you know, the deepest and most powerful college football conference in the game. We not talking "USF or Boise State", we talkin' Bama, Fla, Ga, Aub, and so on.
Explain that one. And please don't tell us that LSU has "vastly better facilities, and a more storied traditional" than all the SEC schools as well.

maybe so or maybe not. how the hell would you, i or anybody short of god know that? you think that, i'm sure. but a look at history would prove you wrong. there is NO COLLEGE that that is true about. do you not know of bama's struggles after the bear left and after stallings left? georgia afer dooley left. florida after spurrier, etc, etc. my observations of OVER 40 YEARS are that in both college and pro football the programs with THE BEST COACHES WIN THE MOST GAMES. it can be in pittsburg, tampa, san francisco or elsewhere. the college and or the pro franchise doesn't mean that much. ask IBM and General Motors what leadership means (or lack thereof).

There aren't many HCs I'd trade Miles for. Miles has proven over the long haul that he'll win. A lot.
Just want a better offense is all. We'll win even more then.

I just love the extremists on this board. Reminds me of the old Viet Nam days - Love it or Leave it. Neither philosophy recognizes that you can love and support something or somebody but still not be happy with some of their actions. Les can stay and I can still get pissed at him. It used to be called freedom. Les does what he wants and I do what I want. How about that?

We have out talented most teams, and the ones we lost to just out coached us. We won't be able to survive on talent alone forever.
