Is it just me or is HD overrated?

Yes, sports its totally worth it, but I really feel like putting it to TV and film makes it look like I'm still in the editing room, to where I often just want to watch it in lesser quality. The more realistic it looks, the more staged it looks to me. Anyone else feel the same way?

While I kind of see what you're saying, I don't agree. HD gives a pretty crisp, clear picture and 99% of the time I'm going with the HD channel over the regular broadcast.
I will say that I hate trying to watch shows/movies in HD that haven't been remastered/retouched for it. Seems like HD makes it worse in those cases.

Bluray really makes you feel this way. Once you get used to it, its hard to go back or everything looks like shite

I agree about older movies that have not been remastered. Definitely harder to watch now

I wouldnt be thtat extreme with it. its a great thing
At the same time the people that refuse to watch anything not in HD and act like regular TV hurts their eyes is ridiculous and annoying though.

Maybe your TV has the soap opera effect going on.

I've honestly never felt like this.

I agree with cgs things often look really fake

I wish we could just go back to VHS quality.

I felt like that for about a week. Now, not watching something in HD feels like watching a show thru fog.

If you're experiencing the "this looks like it was filmed with a camcorder" effect, I hear it has something to do with the settings, but I don't know what.

Everyone who disagrees just doesn't have a new/ nice enough TV. It's the soap opera effect. There are ways to turn it down, but new TV's running at optimum look fake and feel like they are "on a set." I hate that too.
