Killing Halfhand is different than the old man. Halfhand and Jon knew it was necessary and part of his 'job.' I got in the mood to reread the books today but I'm going to hold off until the season is over I think.

Melisandre's powers come alive at the Wall because the Wall intensifies all magic/powers. The Wall is capable of doing that because there is a huge Ice Dragon inside the Wall

That's because Jon struggles internally between his Stark honor and his Targ dark side

I can see that. And I could understand him hitting the rock with his sword. But in reality in that world and that time period I kind of think he would have gone along with them rather than risk everything he had done to get to that point.

But that's just how Jon is.

That's another dragon in the Crypts of Winterfell
Posted on 4/5/14 at 7:47 pm to Finkle is Einhorn
Do we know this for sure or is this just a theory everyone has right now?
Posted on 4/5/14 at 7:49 pm to Porter Osborne Jr
Everything is a theory bro

I was just wondering if there are clues in the books I missed or if it's just speculation.

The theory behind the dragon under Winterfell comes from the hot springs and specifically how warm Cats room was in Winterfell.
The theory behind the dragon in the Wall comes from how the magic around the Wall and how the Wall itself is magical.
There is something of a concept that has been around for awhile about ice dragons and the like. It ranges from there being ice dragons in the Lands of Always Winter, to the idea that the Wall is not natural and there is ice dragons beneath it. The latter example somewhat goes with the idea that the Horn of Winter is capable of waking the "Sleepers"
Also here's this part in the Nights Watch oath:
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all nights to come."
I do think that GRRM's childrens story The Ice Dragon is set in the same world as ASOIAF and I think it may help explain winter and what's ahead

Nice, that's twice today you've come through with answers

I dunno. I think an actual Ice Dragon may be a step too far in the suspension of disbelief department for a book /tv series that tries to keep the magic as "realistic" as possible.

GRRM kept the magic believable for a book or two, then Melisandre started having demon spawn assassin babies, shape shifting, Uncat, and so on. I think the wall being built on top of an ice dragon is not so far fetched. I do firmly believe there is a dragon under Winterfell.

Didn't GRRM write a children's book about ice dragons??
Jon is going to ride a dragon; I don't care what the haters say .
