I'll have to check my Nook when I get home for that one.

When are they going to announce the casting of the Red Viper of Dorne? I want to see Tyrion and him bond before he's arrested. No way his death will be remotely as effective if they don't have him before the Purple Wedding.

i dont think it's necessary. they could bring him in while tyrion's in jail in S4 and have them bond over a few episodes via jail convos. i could see it working

Yeah, but he'd only be there for like 2 or 3 episodes. He should come in halfway through the third season and die halfway through the fourth.

id say 4 episodes chatting in jail with one of the cliffhangers being Red Viper's vow to fight on Tyrion's behalf, and the next episode the battle
dude theres no way the battle will be able to hold the book version's jock strap

I think alot of that is failing to build up the Mountain. I honestly don't think the majority of the audience has any idea who he is. I remember when watching the second season for the first time (and while simultaneously finishing the first book) having no idea that the tall guy in the room was the Mountain. Yeah, they got the Mountain off to a good start with cutting off the horse's head, but have completely failed to follow up on his threat.

Precisely.
In the books, the mountain was like a captain kurtz in the way he was built up. really made the fight so intense. shite, even the announcement by Cersei that he would be her champion was goosebump-inducing because of how much we had been fed about his reign of terror.
They also need to build up rains of castamere. if they just play it at RW, i feel like a lot of viewers won't even notice. they need to explain the back story so that as catelyn is moving through the crowd and the first line is sung, the viewers' hearts stop, they look at people they're watching with, and pray that what they think is about to happen, doesn't happen.

It is probably because I was oblivious to just how many details there are in each scene my first time through the books, but when I read that Reigns of Castamere was playing, I didn't even think twice about it. I just thought, ok whatever, another song.

If you think about it they already have to a degree with how it was featured in Season 2 during the Blackwater episode. So there's at least that exposure.

Does anyone have any thoughts (or have seen anything written about) whether the fact that Jon was burned fighting the wight puts a crimp into the R+L=J theory?
We talked about this a couple weeks ago, and I linked to a thread on the westeros forum. I'm of the impression that it wasn't so much Targaryen immunity to fire that kept Daenerys from being burned as much as it was the blood magic she learned from MMD. Other places in the books it sounds like she's not so immune.
Thanks for the info! (and thanks to all who provided feedback). It appears it had to be some combination of magic that kept Danny from being burned then. Maybe from the magi lady being burned and the dragon eggs being in the pyre and maybe even a little from Danny being a Targ played into it some kind of way.
Looks like the possibilities for Jon are still wide open then, even given his rather precarious position at the present time.

I hope whoever they cast as the Red Viper, since he will only be in a few episodes, is a really recognizable/almost A-list name...just to add weight to the awesomeness of the character...I have a hard time envisioning what his face looks like myself, so hard to spit out names as examples, but I picture a man, average build to lean, avg or even slightly below avg height, with age apparent in his face, but still moves like a cat...think Jason Statham-like (Dare to dream) but more Mediterranean, like Oded Fehr or Cliff Curtis . Pics in the links are old, so age more apparent now
Or am I off in picturing Dornishmen like Middle-Eastern/ South American in appearance?
also -
was trying to find the name of the hedge knights I referred to in the Brienne broken-knight scene and found this tid-bit that I wasn't aware of...(the last part, that is)at The Citadel:

quote:
Ser Shadrich of Shady Glen
Brienne of Tarth comes across Ser Shadrich escorting a merchant on the road to Duskendale. When speaking with him, she discovers that he too is seeking Sansa Stark, although he is hoping for the reward. She also realizes that he knows that she is on the same search, so she leaves his company as quickly as she can. Later, Ser Shadrich is among three hedge knights that Littlefinger takes into his service.

I always pictured the Red Viper looking like a skinnier Jimmy Smits with a longer nose.
ETA: Although, the Oded guy you posted looks damn close to the image in my head.

That's always been the kind of mental image I've had also. I always kind of equated Dorne with Spain in my mind's eye so always pictured a kind of olive skinned or mediteranean look.
The Oded photo in facial features/beard etc. is close to what I would picture but not someone quite as buff or bulked up as that guy looks to be.

Oberyn: I'll still hold out hope that Purefoy will get freed up from The Following. He'd also have to go back on his word about not ever being on the show even if they asked though.

So am I the only one that didnt pick up that the Sphinx is a god damn Sand Snake? Also, do you think that Dany will even speak with Marwyn since he taught MDM her "healing" skills possibly contributing to Drogo's death?
My god this reread has opened up so many doors! Do not read the series in bed with Scotch! It only detracts from the experience.
Closing in on 200!

Just had another thought about future casting for the tv series. Anyone think Dominic West might be able to fit in as a character?
