To Soph: Generally we'll have a more limited playbook with Ivory but that's ok. If we need tough yards or to run clock then so be it, we don't need a ton of options, just a battering ram. There's no need for four great pass catching RBs on the roster.
this is how I feel. Cadet has looked good but we already have 2 GREAT rbs that can catch out of the backfield. The idea of Ivory pounding the ball is more valuable to me than a rookie rb who can catch the ball.

People keep saying this but it's not correct. Watch clips from the Dallas in '10 & the season finale against Carolina & you will see Ivory is very solid in his blitz pick ups. He's been solid in several other games but those are ones that stick out in my head.

If you're inactive on game day, you're not pounding anything.

I doubt Cadet takes Ivory's spot but I really think Nick Toon or Tom Johnson or Andy Tanner could.

BTW, it's fricking awesome that our most heated discussion this training camp is about who will win the fourth string RB job, which is going to go to a guy who will be inactive more often than not.

At least I hope he will be. That means no injuries to the top 3.

so Cadet will be active if he makes the team?
my argument was who I want as a 4th rb on the team. whether active or inactive.

That's true. I think we really don't appreciate the talent level on this team.

Chris Ivory is averaging 15 yards a catch receiving the ball.

Toon hasn't been practicing
Tom Johnson always seems to he hurt
I don't think Andy tanner has a spot On this team, if he does, he'll be taking Toon's spot

It'd be nice if they were to IR Toon for the year and let Tanner crack the roster. He's certainly earned it.

His point is the fighting is futile (as it is most of the time).

Right now......you have to pick. Who do you want?

Ivory can be a back that could rush for 1300 yards in a season if he was given the opportunity to. For our offense being a "finesse" team... i like having Ivory come in and bang some defenders off their heels. I'd admit he hasn't look quite the same thus far but i ain't dismissing what he's proved over 2 seasons over 2 meaningless horseshite preseason games.

I agree. I just don't see him being active over Ingram/Sproles/PT without injury. If they activate 4 RBs every week, they are lacking depth at another position. Now, if you want him active over Ingram, thats a whole different thread.

But one thing we've learned about our RB group is we'll use all of them during the season. Between PT, Ingram, and Ivory... it'd be nothing short of a fricking divine miracle if they go through the season without someone missing some pretty significant time.

He's a man that's taken full advantage of the opportunity presented.

in the WR depth? thread I put if ya wanna know lack of depth look at the MIA WRs...
Legedu Naanee
Davone Best
Brian Hartline (injured)
Clyde Gates
Marlon Moore
Roberto Wallace
Julius Pruitt
etc
Step back and enjoy that we're arguing towards the bottom of the roster guys. Instead of scouting other rosters of who might get cut, we have the players that other teams wish they had or will pick up as cuts.
