Haven't read the thread, but...

We didn't play terrible at all.

The scoreline was terrible, but I thought we looked pretty decent.

Regroup, and roll the syrup suckers!

I kept hoping we would latch on to another when it was 3-1 to make the score better, since we really didn't play that poorly. The scoreline makes it seem like we took a beating, but in truth we really didn't. But of course everyone looking at the boxscore will roll with the mindset that USA got whipped.

The lack of awareness or chemistry on the backline can only be improved with time/caps, hopefully

We just arent that good. Was really disappointed with the d. I recal at one point it was like 4 brazilions against bradley and no one cared to even help out.

Outside of our defensive miscues. (Jones leaving his assignment on the corner/headed goal, Boca/Onyewu messing up on a consistent basis. The partner ship just wasn't there.)

We played very well. AND WE ATTACKED BRAZIL. We had a TON of scoring chances.

1. Onyewu hit the crossbar with his header.
2. Gomez had his header miraculously saved with Dempsey coming in
3. Gomez had a shot blocked and Boyd's clean up was saved
4. Bradley's power header was saved.

You can tell our up tempo pace needs a lil work. We are getting better and US Soccer is on the rise. IMO.

Not to mention a number of long range efforts from just outside the 18 (one rocket from Edu comes to mind), and a few dangerous set pieces.

The scoreline was more indicative of their finishing (and goalkeeping) than any other aspect of the game (including the play of Gooch and Edu.)

Scrub the PK, get a couple of those chances to fall, and the scoreline is far, far different.

It's soccer, it happens.

Yah, if you can't take positives from this game, you either didn't watch or don't belong on the board.

Not directed at Sheep.

On a side note, it's time for Jurgen to put Goodson back on the field. His absence is noticable.

I don't remember what the final tally was. BUT, I'm pretty sure at halftime. We had outshot brazil. I'm not 100% sure on this but I THINK we had more shots on target. too ?

ETA:

I'm going to go ahead and say this too. Gooch is fit and in form. I keep hearing everyone say he isn't in form because of his bad performance. BUT, the dude has been healthy for a while now and he has been playing in Portugal, regularly. He has been doing fairly ok, not great.

With any other team outside of Brazil/Spain. I think he'd do a ok job. He will be great in CONCACAF competion. He is just on the downhill of his career, just like Bocanegra and 'Dolo. Him being on "form" isn't much of a high ceiling anymore.

Not washed up. Above serviceable and good against CONCACAF teams. Also, he hasn't been paired up with Boca much either. Goodson/Cameron have got the majority of the pairings.

I don't disagree with Klinsmann's thought process, but I think *his* naivete is showing a bit. If we play "nasty" in Guatemala in a couple of weeks, we'll be down to 9 men by half time.

Yep and JJ deserved a red for the trailing leg takedown.
Hopefully JK just means we have to play aggressively and confidently from the start and not timidly as we seem to start against quality opponents. Brazil is good, but they don't have magical powers to force our players into errant passes and middle school first touches.

That said, I like that we kept attacking all game even though we knew it would probably open up chances for Brazil. With better finishing by us it might have worked.
Brazil played with fire last night though. Have to give that young bunch of players respect. Marcelo was a freaking boss.

We're not that good compared to Brazil with $30m players coming off the bench, no, but we're pretty good compared to where we were a year ago IMO. I'm not crediting Klinsi with all of that. Most of it is due to picking up Johnson and some other guys just being better now.

The one major disappointment for me was the lack of composure we sometimes showed, but again we were being energetically pressed by some world-class players. Do we need to do better in the face of such pressure? Yes, but it's not shocking that we aren't there yet.

I don't think he "deserved" a red, but our refs from the 2009 Confederations Cup would disagree.

Agreed. It's crazy but in a 4-1 game we can take a lot of positives from it.

- Bradley's continued form
- Johnson seeming to finally be our answer at LB
- the chances created in the 2nd half
- Howard's play
- Gomez's hustle

I disagree. He got the ball before he got the player, and got the ball again before it went out.

I saw it as a really hard tackle, but legitimate.

Doesn't mean that same challenge doesn't draw a red from a shitty CONCACAF ref, though.

Neymar embellished the shite out of that challenge from Jones too. Had he not faked the injury and ran into the ad boards, Jones might have even escaped a booking.

Marcelo really thwarted our advances, it's a shame he was a bitch. It's also a shame that MARCELO KILLED FIVE HOOKERS.
