We may NEVER "compete" with the likes of Brasil. Changing one player won't affect that.

True, but I'd rather not lose b/c one or two players are slow. I'm not claiming there is an easy fix or that we would have won without Gooch.

The Gold Cup final last year was an abomination although Bornstein playing left back and Lichaj playing RB out of position had a lot to do with that.

Lichaj is a RB.

Pace and conviction will always kill you on the counter, but it will do that that to anyone

I think that we might go smaller in defense for 2014. We might be better equipped to deal with it

I definitely think this may be our only shot to advance out of the group stage. Of course it always depends on who we're facing.

If we trot out Gooch, Bornstein, etc...it's gonna be an early exit.

I doubt Bornstein sees the NT ever again. He must have had some photos of Bob cheating on his wife.

But who are the feasible options if we go smaller in defense in 2014?

I know, I was there That said, his "natural position" is RB, but yeah, with club and country he often gets played at LB.

Tim Ream
Geoff Cameron
Omar Gonzales

Ike Opara is a decent prospect
AJ Delagarza is having a fairly crap season with LA but he's been solid in the past.

I liked what I saw from Cameron against scotland. It'd be nice if a guy like Ike Opara would pan out. Maybe there's an Afro-American-German somewhere who will save us in two years.

I just know that we can't pair Gooch and Boca and not expect to get torn to shreds by any team with a hint of speed.

Brazil fantastic movement.

Iffy handbal PK on Gooch for Neymar Penalty

Awful defending on corner for free Thiago Silva header

Great passing sequence Bradley to Johnson to Gomez for our goal right before the half.

Marcelo was a complete bastard, and should have been sent off were it not a friendly. Scored the third on a nice counter.

Should have scored thrice but Brazil keeper was outstading.

Gooch played Pato onside for a nice volleyed goal.

Good:

Neymar
Thiago Silva
Brazil GK
Gomez
Bradley
Johnson

Bad:
Gooch
Edu
Jones on the set piece

My preferred lineup for the next game:

Johnson-Cameron-Bocanegra-Cherundolo

------Torres----Jones-------

Donovan---Bradley------Dempsey

---------Jozy-----------

Give Bradley and Jones free range to move forward as they please. Torres can become the deep lying playmaker with cover from Bradley and Jones.

That's probably the best lineup I could create at this point.

I think that is a great line-up against Canada but we shouldn't use that type of squad against a top 10 team.

In addition to THenry's summaries of the goals the following key plays happened:

At 1-0, Hulk was on a breakaway and Howard made a very nice play.

At 3-1 I believe, Pato hit the post.

At 3-1, Dempsey almost scored a goal. He had gotten past the keeper, but one of the Brazilians made a strong defensive play and it led to a corner.

At 3-1, Gomez took a strong shot the keeper saved. Boyd then took a rebound shot similar to Donovan's goal against Algeria, but the keeper made a great foot save.

At 3-1, Onyewu hit the crossbar on Donovan corner

At 3-1, Bradley hit a strong shot to the keeper on a Donovan corner. A few minutes later, Pato made it 4-1.

At the very least I'm glad that we seemed to threaten their goal pretty well, with a little better luck we'd have had 3 goals tonight. And it sucked to have 4 scored on us.. but the penalty was BS (IMO) and honestly without Gooch's terrible play we probably could have got out of their with 2 goals scored.

They outplayed us.. but not by an astronomical amount in the way the scoreline indicated or the way we played with scotland.
