also, the Martells aren't descendants of the Targaryens. They were the last to be conquered by Aegon and thus the Targaryens had more respect for them than anyone else and married into their family.

That assumes that the account of Dany's birth told to her is accurate. We've seen countless instances of stories being in accurate.

The current crop are and the Martells at the time of Dany's birth were decedents of the Martell-Targaryen alignment.

Maybe very distant but the current crop(Prince Doran and co.) are pretty much pure Martells.

Also, Viserys was there for the birth of Dany on Dragonstone.

There are some families with small ties but nothing major. And by some pretty much Baratheon & Martell

Speaking of Targaryens, just reread a chapter where Brienne tells Cat about a singer Brienne's father brought across the Narrow Sea to bang for a while. She had eyes of "plum". GRRM has me so paranoid that I spent the rest of the chapter trying to figure out what Targaryen/Blackfyre that could have been. It could have been a red (purple) herring also.

Reading the nonspoiler thread, and boy are there some clueless people over there. Good comedy for the book readers.

I didn't start reading the books until a couple of months back and it's funny to me to think I was in that lot last season.

Everytime I see someone post "I can't wait for Robb to kill Joffrey", I just think "Poor guy is going to be so heartbroken".

They were never conquered by Aegon. Dorne was occupied briefly by Daeron II but they eventually rose up and destroyed his army. It was generations later that they formed an alliance by marriage.

Along the same vain, I wonder if they're setting up Cat to release Jaime (via LF's meeting) before the last straw that truly causes it (Bran and Rickon's 'deaths'). With their deaths, you could kind of excuse her actions and betrayal of Robb due to extreme emotional distress.

She still has to get back to Robb, Theon may make it to Winterfell before that.

As I think Cat will return overland and not by sea.

Not at all. Take a look at the family tree.

Dany Targaryen is a direct decedent of Myriah Martell. Myriah was her great, great, great grandmother.

Something else I noticed, Dany Targaryen and Robert Baratheon share great grandparents. They are 5th cousins.

No, Daeron II married Myriah Martell. Furthermore, Daeron II's sister married Myriah's brother.

Rhaegar called Robert his cousin when talking to Jaime.

Thought the Bartheons were related distantly to the Targareyen's that is why Ned said Robert had the better claim.

The Rhaelle Targaryen mentioned above was Robert's grandmother.

Yep. They are all intertwined.

Basically, the current Daenerys Targaryen is a fourth generation offspring of King Daeron II and Myriah Martell.

While Doran Martell, Ellia Martell, and the Red Viper are third generation offspring of Daenerys Targaryen (King Daeron II's sister) and Prince Maron Martell.

You're right, it was Daeron I who briefly conquered Dorne before losing his army.
